Just reread your post if most of your racing is from roll ons that start at 80 plus and go to 180 rather than launching from a dead stop I would go with 17/44 that should give you about the same top speed as a stocker with better roll on acceleration as well..............your not going to really get more speed than the 186........particularly at your size and weight unless you add some horsepower to that motor.........might want to consider nitrous or Y2K's head and cam package...........THEN you'll gain both acceleration AND MPH.........remember gearing is usually a trade off.

Yes........................ down side is 17/44 will not go on a stock chain. I had to wait until the stock chain finally stretched out at 1500 miles or so before the rear 43 would fit. I walk away from friends 14 with 17/41 doing roll on's so bad and I am 30 pounds heaver he changed too. 14 will still see 190 at 11,000 with 17/43. Speedo healer :-)

Next chain I will go with all new 17/44 in steel sprockets and a EK ZZZ chain and rivet the master link.

You should be more respectful when asking for free advice that cost a lot of money to figure out on your own and in some cases is priceless.
If you know it or not when you posted "Please stop posting in this thread." Must of the people reading your thread said phuckyou.
Now for your question:
"ok now................without being rude or crude.............am I going in the right direction with
this combo or what?"
No your are going in the wrong direction with that combo and your weight/power ratio. I suggest you install a speedo healer and run some were between 16/43 and 16/46. I suggest you start at 16/44.
Most of the time if your opponent ask for a 2nd gear roll-on they are going to start from 1st gear and if you start from 2nd at your weight( which is close to mine) you don't have much of a chance.
Sincerely,
BLK ICE
By the way, how do you determine who won the roll-on; Is it by who hits the top end limiter first?

What gearing would you guys recommend for SWB roll-on acceleration. I'm thinking 16/42 or 16/43. Don't want a wheelie machine!

Thanks in advance

What is your weight, and what gear, speed, and rpm do you start from?

I think 16/43 @ 70 mph in 2nd or 3rd gear, you may lift the wheel a little but if so, it will come down at gear change without you having to back out of the throtle.

However, I think you should go with 16/42 and start in firt gear @ 70 mph. You will have quicker accelaration for a longer time, but It may wheelie a little more.
I think a low power wheelie is a good thing. It lets me know that the weight has transfer to the back wheel for maxium traction. If you have the front strap leave about an inch of slack in it. (measured while you are setting on the bike) This will allow for a qiuck weight transfer for traction and reduce high wheelies. I suggest you install a speedo healer if you want to reach the bikes top speed.
Check out //www.gearing commander.com/

Hopefully someone close to your weight and set-up will chime in and give you first hand info.
Good luck,

@ his weight(280) he may not reach a true 180mph with any gear combo on stock power and surely he will not win many races if he gears his bike to do so IMO.

gear commander.com state a ZX14 will do 180mph 16/43 @10600 rpm. There are many other factors to consider.
Shane is very good at top speed gearing.

I am 280lbs. My friend has a Hayabusa who weighs 180lbs. He could pull me 3 bikes to about 150mph. I changed to 16/43 and now pull him 3 bikes. I have no need to hit 180mph!

Thanks I will go to the gearing site. Next chain thought about 17/44 for street. 180 is fast enough on Hiway. Looking to be a litle Quicker thru the gears on the street.

BLK ICE,

I will start with 16/42. My bike has Muzzy dog bones on middle hole and the front is lowered 1.25 internally with the Schnitz lowering blocks. I cool with a small 6 - 12 " wheelie, just don't want any 12:00 wheelies!! Already have the speedo healer installed. I did check the gearing commander and 186 is plenty of speed for me on the street!!

Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it!!

68gts2.................I guess that you think that you are cool just making jokes about people and calling them names on the internet. Does that make you feel like a better man?

You can't hide behind the keyboard, no matter where you live.

I sent you a private pm. I suggest that you read and understand it.

Then give me a call.

I dont know if some of you realize it but weight does not change top speed numbers but a guy's size will because of him catching the wind. One of the cycle mags did a test on this in the early 90's to prove it. I always thought lighter was faster but all it really means is lighter is quicker.
