Besides losing a small amount of oil capacity / filter surface area there really isn't much difference. If you want a slightly shorter filter why not run the Kawi 16097-0002 filter instead? I still don't see any real use though, what kind of exhaust are you running where the oil filter gets that close? Im running a filter 1" longer then stock and im no where near the header with my Muzzy M14.
I'm running Brock's Gen 3 and the header pipe only has a little over a 1/16" of clearance with the OEM filter. Brock verfied this was ok when I installed the pipe 4 years ago and I haven't had any problems. It would just be easier with a little bigger gap and using K&N's 17mm nut to put on and remove the filter. I'd feel more comfortable with a larger gap. I do check the gap occasionally as part of my usual preride inspection.

I hate my Suzuki layout, they put the oil filter right above the header collector so i had to wrap my header with a plastic bag each oil change to avoid getting any oil on the pipes which would just result in a stinky smoke. My Honda VFR was the same ordeal but just in more of a confined space then the Suzuki. The worse one ive owned was the Kawi ZX6 i had, that shit had to have the lower fairing off and i have to remove the oil cooler each time to do a oil change, i hated that shit. The ZX14 is by far the best layout, i will be happy to change its oil and filter on this baby.

Is this gonna turn into another pipe thread? My Muzzy is wicked and is a Kawasaki pipe unlike the Yosh which is a Suzuki pipe.....oops it just sliped out before I could stop myself. I hear a knock at the door already,Brockland police again,Damn.

That reminds me of the time where a non motorcycling coworker asked me why i didn't get a Yoshinoya exhaust for my Suzi instead of the Akra, im like well first of all im not sure how well a beef bowl will work as a muffler. lol... he didnt get it.

Sorry but everybody and his mama and his daddys booza has a yosh on it ... Too much of the same thing bugs me. And I've seen a few in my shop for an oil change with the oil filter too close to the exhaust. The short filter would help!
Well if you want to see a pipe that everybody has take a look around man. Brocks is on every bike in this GD forum! For that reason I want to sell my pipe! Yes it makes power and yes Brocks is great, bla, bla, bla but I have almost fallen off of the Brocks bandwagon.

I was there at GMR that morning, i rode down and you were going up. You wouldn't of recognize me for one since i was riding my 750 that day. (was trying to finish off my worn out out BT002).
Come to think of it, i think its been a month or so. But yea i remember the blue ZX14 had some scratches from a previous lay down on the left side. Was sporting 190 55 Pirelli Corsa's, blue/black Bruce exhaust, and i think there was a big tank bag on it. You were wearing a black leather jacket with some bike club name and the front pocket said club president. You asked Charlie @ parts411 for a battery i think it was for another bike he had (probably the Honda CBR).
And i do remember your front tire looked quiet murdered that day too.

Yup . I was on a parts run for a client. GMR is too close to parts 411 to not hit it up
