sorry filter question

I was picking up my supplies today and the dealer talked me into a shorter K&N oil filter, the KN-204. It's shorter than the OEM and the K&N KN-303. I liked the idea of the shorter filter because of how close the header pipes are to the stock oem filter.

Should I have any concerns about this shorter filter or its peformance? I realize it may not be everyone's first choice, but it will only be there for a year and probably less than 2500 miles of street riding.

Thank you.

Besides losing a small amount of oil capacity / filter surface area there really isn't much difference. If you want a slightly shorter filter why not run the Kawi 16097-0002 filter instead? I still don't see any real use though, what kind of exhaust are you running where the oil filter gets that close? Im running a filter 1" longer then stock and im no where near the header with my Muzzy M14.

You should be fine. What kind of pipe are you running that is causing the clearance problem?

Really? Wow, that must be a very awkward pipe design, mine look like they are all swept towards the right side of the bike. This bike has been the easiest to do a oil change of any bike ive owned. All you really need is a 17mm ratchet, no need to remove fairings, none of that...life is good.

Sorry but everybody and his mama and his daddys booza has a yosh on it ... Too much of the same thing bugs me. And I've seen a few in my shop for an oil change with the oil filter too close to the exhaust. The short filter would help!

But you can't run a bigger oil filter can you?
Can you wrap your hand around the oil filter ? I don't think you can!

Yes I don't know why their design runs the pipes close to the filter like that but oil changes are still easy .
Just no clearance for a bigger filter and just barely enough clearance for the stock filter. The stock header allows for a ton of room for the oil filter. Muzzy has a ton of clearance and so does Brocks.

From my observations in popularity order:
Busa guys like Brock's, Yoshi, Tiforce, Tsukigi.
ZX14 guys like Brock's and Muzzy.
GSXR owners like, Yoshi, 2Bros, Akrapovic

Just be happy you don't have a 2bros exhaust on your ZX, i have yet to see a bike where the 2bros doesn't look like shit. lol

Plenty of room! The #4 pipe on the yosh cuts in a lot closer to the filter.

Definetly less clearance than the Muzzy, still very easy to change oil! Long filter, probably not.

Well if you want to see a pipe that everybody has take a look around man. Brocks is on every bike in this GD forum! For that reason I want to sell my pipe! Yes it makes power and yes Brocks is great, bla, bla, bla but I have almost fallen off of the Brocks bandwagon.

It's a drag racing forum that's why you see mostly Brocks. The other zx14 forum I go to you'll see alot of different exhausts. I'm one of the very few Brocks pipes. I'd bet 90% of the zx14's in existence run only slip ons or stay stock.

So you also believe that Brocks pipes are the minority on 14's and Busas? Maybe I am the one that is blind to all the other pipes for the 14 and the Busa but......I just find it funny that someone would say that they are sick of everybody having Yosh pipes thats why he went with something different. (BROCKS).....LMFAO!!!!!!! Now, different would be Area P or Tsukigi for the 14.

I'm very happy with the Yosh's performance. As far as seeing alot of them.....no, not on ZX-14's anyway. The only way I would change it is for a full system with Ti header and CF Can which would be slightly lighter.

I'm going tiforce hi mount if that counts for different. I only know of like 2 people on this board that has that and one of them is just a dual slip on.

I agree EPD although I am not a fan of Yosh, I have never, ever seen a Yosh pipe on a 14 and if you like the pipe, good for you!
