Track Days with ZX-14?

I've been riding a long time (20+ years), never been to the track. Been checking sportbiketracktime.biz and I think it's time.

Have any of you guys taken your 14 to the track? I see from various sigs that many have a "track bike", usually a 600 - is that the way to go? Does insurance cover accidents incurred at the track? That's my biggest fear, wiping out and trashing the 14, which I guess is a good argument in favor of a second bike.

My insurance pays if you crash on the road course track, as long as you are not in a race event. Normal trackday...statefarm here pays. But you push harder and harder on tracks and tend to lowside/highside more often, so it may not be good to make a claim if you do it all the time.

I've done aver a dozen track days on my 14. Its a blast!! Go with a track day outfit that divides you up to your ability. And if they have instruction pay for it. I've been riding street since 74 and racing since 69 and it was well worth it.
Greatly improved my street riding.
Heres a link I guess you missed..,

Very 1st track day

I wadded up a 600 at a track day. My insurance, from wor,k paid over $120k in medical bills because it wasnt a race. Who cares about the bike? I dont insure them as its not required in Wa.

as long as its a track day (not a sanctioned, competitive race event), insurance will pay.

many of us went to great lengths to confirm this, personally i confirmed it with my state farm agent.

track days are considered rider skills improvement and many insurance companies promote attending track days.

If anyone lives in Michigan we have two good road tracks with lots of test and tune and open bike days. I'm smack in the middle of all of them in Grand Rapids. Gingerman Raceway is in South Haven (1 hour south of GR) and Grattan Raceway in Grattan (30 minutes northeast of GR). Oh and if you want to drag then it's US 131 Dragway in Martin (30 minutes south of GR).

Mid Ohio is a sweet track -- wish I'd have stuck with it and taken part in actually racing, but track days are still a blast either way -- beats the pants out of sittin' in the bleachers

Im too afraid of laying down the 14 at a track, its got gobs of power and lord only knows i give too much throttle in the turns. I have my 750 for those kinda of days.

I miss my YZF track ride........but honestly the 14 isn't that bad at the track -- however, my flies are still in for that bit of more power management in the turns.
