first track day with low long bike help

tomorrow will be my first track day of the year and have a couple ? with the stretch/low technique.

2008 bike setup consists of 64.5" wb, 16-45 gearing, front lowered .950 and strap, rear in lowest hole, seat ht 28", stock shock with a '04 busa spring and a nearby guy revalve, pp2ct rear tire, stock engine, stock exhaust, pc3 on zero map, air shifter, 560 lbs with half tank.

suited i'm around 200 lbs so i'm working with a a pretty heavy combo at the moment. i am looking for suggestions on starting rear tire pressure, launch rpm, shock settings, etc. i was thinking going low on tire pressure like 12 psi and full soft on the compression and rebound. if it rubs in the tail, add some comp. is that a good start? the rebound is much slower now with the revalve, hell, cranked all the way in is takes about a sec to come back up. hopefully i can find a magic setup in the shock now.

oh, and much thanks to all on the site for posting good usable info. without it, i'd be at square one with the setup. now it's only my own skill that needs much refining.

tire pressure should be as high as possible without spinning....I'd start much higher and work down.

Your suspension is critical in getting the bike to squat and stay there while you are launching. It sounds like you will be ok since yours is already revalved. Spring is the X factor right now and until you get out there to see if it's hooking and bottoming out you'll just have to play it by ear.

Do you have an undertail or stock? If stock, you need to be VERY careful of rubbing through into the ECM wiring if you bottom hard.

Launch RPM will vary with the rider....are you one to slide the clutch on a WFO throttle? OR one that gets the clutch out and controls things with the throttle? Two very different techniques that require different RPM settings.

i'm still running the stock undertail but my alum plate bracket is above the tire so hopefully that'll give it the necessary strength. that's good to know about the wiring though.

i'm a clutch slider, never had much luck modulating the throttle. guess cause i'm a lefty. wfo for me.

what do you suggest for a starting air pressure?

I usually start at 18 psi and add or subtract pressure based on whether it spins or not. I run a stickier tire than you have though.

you most likely won't hook with a 2ct and 64.5" wheelbase, but if the track is prepped really well you might get away with it since you've got a re-valve already. I would start at 15psi and go from there. be very aware of wheelies if you don't have a lowered oil pan as well. Many of people have crashed out due to smacking the drain plug through the bottom of the pan. I run 16/46 gearing and launch at about 7k rpms snapping the throttle open to the stop and sliding the clutch to about the tree. It usually gets me somewhere in the 1.45-1.46 range. (mind you i'm running a shinko U-soft).

Remember that your strap is a tuning aid. With that tire, I would start with the strap just pulled tight enough to keep the fron forks from extending. The tighter you strap it the worse it's going to spin. If you launch out and it wheelies then add a little more strap to it until you find that fine line. Your goal at this wheelbase is to launch hard enough to skim the front tire about 6-12" above the ground for as long as possible without backing out of the throttle or wheelying uncontrollable.

Good luck and have fun. Long Wheelbase takes a completely different riding style, but if you can ride at SWB you can ride anything.

pretty much the same when I was stretched...started at 20psi and went from there. You'll get a feel for your bike/tire combo as you get more seat time.

Good you have the plate there...should be ok then if you bottom and make adjustments.
