How do they get the letters z and x out of ninja? Is it just some of that jap stuff we don't understand?

With Kawasaki Corp, the "X" stood for experimental in older models. The "Z", I dont know?

I think it stands for outrageous insurance prices because when I told my agent I got a ZX-14 Ninja she told me to bend over

I have State Farm and its cheaper to insure my ZX14 then my gixxer 750, its a different class.

"z" was Kaw's inline 4 engine prefix. No idea what "x" is.

Perhaps Z for in-line four, as kawasakijockey said, and X for across the frame?

ill have to look through my old SSB mags, there is an article explaining what EACH one of them means...i.e CBR, GSXR, ZX, YZF and so on. ill get back to you guys later tonight when i get home. most of them make no sense from what i remember

Can't say what zx stands for but i can tell you what my 68 GTX letters stood for .. GT =grand tourer and X was for experimental .. But us gear heads called it a Get-X because it would allways go get it ..

So if I understand correctly it means z=inline 4, x=experimental, 14=1400cc displacement. I guess it makes sense.
