ya I saw them on another website, they snapped while a guy was riding

quote from Gilles:
I'm sorry for the trouble our KTS has caused and am glad that you didn't get hurt!
The reason for the break is due to the latest coated swing arms. If you tight the OEM axle nut with the recommended torque the axle doesn't clamp correctly! Therefore we advised for those bikes to use addtional to our KTS the OEM adjusting screw. But unfortunately it's not possible on your bike and we discontinued the production of this type of KTS.
We can offer you to refund the price you've paid. If you aggree, just send us the invoice and the broken kts to the adress below.

They would touch at Pacific Raceways downhill turn 3 and all around Portlands track.
The sidestand touched in Pacifics turn 9 when I was playing with a big powerslide by the flagman.
The instructors 'suggested I aught not do that anymore.....,
Unfortunately I lost all my trackday photos when my PC crashed.

I was on a track day vacation when I highsided my 600. After the T.day at Pacific where I wrecked we were headed to Willow to do a 2 day event with PSSR.
I still want to get down there.
Love the lay out of the track.
A good video of it;

You will have to google up a track day outfit that runs there regularly.
I'd suggest a outfit that has good instruction for your 1st few times out.

Thought I'd share some photos on my 14's varied life. None of it spent at a drag strip. Hell, I havent even done a real burnout
Set up for track days with track day partner on his 650R. Notice the lowers are off. Havent taped it or pulled mirrors yet in photo. I rode to track that day.

scrapped header pipe & oil site glass from track days.

Changing to Penske shock. Fork mods were done By GP suspension.
Dialed in +1' rear ride height and slid forks DOWN in triple clamps 1/2". No more grinding!

Rode out a 22 mile gravel road to visit my dirt riding Buds. ZX14 will flat track!! After 1st mile I cranked up the preload and dampening!!

And my favorite Hypertouring!!!!!

This bike is so much more than a drag bike.
I live in the hills and rarely go near urban areas. Rarely use the slabs unless in a hurry.
This bike spends its life on backroads.
Just wish I had some shots of Me chasing a Motard in tight twisties. Probably the best riding I've done on Big Red. Cant stuff it under 750s and 600s during track days but could easily hang with liter bikes.
Ya know what? I like the HELL outta the look of that bike with the lower fairing off!
Thank you VERY much for starting this thread. I have no interest in drag racing either (no disrespect to those who do, just not my thang) and those gravel road pics are inspirational too!
Damn shame you don't have a pic of you putting the rash on the pipe & case.
Thanks again and I really hope that more folks will chime in with pics and travel stories. Hell, I might have to get one of these bikes & write some myself - seriously!
Ride safe - and post more pics, dammit!!

On running without the lowers.
I just used zip ties to keep the mid fairings from flopping in the wind. Small ties through the front bolt holes to form a loop. And then I ran long ties to the radiator stay.
And used a black marker to darken the lowers mounts instead of removing them, lol.
I was thinking of getting another set of lowers and cutting them into a trim piece to'finish' the bottom and devise a proper mount. Never bothered as I put the lowers back on for the wet NW winters (ride year round )
On track days I ran Pirelli Corsa IIIs.
Was obviously happy with their edge grip and never tried another brand or model tire. They do get greasy 1/2 way through a track session, but didnt need tire warmers and the spin and slides was very predictable and controllable.
There are much better track/street tires now.

Found some pics from very 1st track day.

tech line. 2 scared cats I dont smoke anymore. notice # sticker location.

Uh buddy I moved your # for you.
Really? thanks.
You really think this is going to be a good track day mount?
Sure I figure if its too much in the corners I'll just MX style on exits!
Tech guy walks away giggling quietly

MX style!!! weight on outside peg backing in, body ALL crossed up!! It was hard not to stick inside foot out LOL!
Gawd I had so much to learn.
Later in session. Starting to get it. In a Dozen more track days you wouldnt even see Me hardly from this angle because I would be way off the other side head down, knee tucked in because of lean angle. Sigh..........,I miss the track

Old Guy - Did you pull a fuse (which one is it?) or unplug all your lights from the back? You didn't just tape over the lenses with the lights on did you? And how do like that Penske shock? That is the one I am considering upgrading to.

Does Ohlins make high end shocks and forks for these bikes?

Yes on pulling fuses. They are plainly marked under the seat.
I love the Penske. My stock stuff was toast when I replaced it.
I have the base model Penske with just rebound/compression adjustments. But there is a huge improvement over stock. Stock stuff is good for street, but once you start chasing proper Road Race bikes its way too weak.
Suggest spending the extra few bills and getting their high/low compression unit or the Ohlins If you have a good Ohlins guy near you. The Penske I have is very simple for Me to adjust. Also had my forks revalved and correct spring rates for my weight and riding needs done by a local suspension guru. Makes the bike so much better for track and street!!!
I will go dig up the Penske model #s if you want.
And yes I've seen full Ohlins for the 14 posted on 14 sites. Bring lots of money lol

Old guy, don't want to burst your bubble but, I have rode all my life, (48yrs old and many many bikes,) and the 14 ain't gonna chase road race bikes period, not unless your name is Rossi and even he would have his hands full. The 14 does a great job of having fun at a track day but by no means is a "track bike." Why is it not used in endurance races? What the 14 is is a good all around bike, not the best at anything,(other than drag work maybe,) but does a great job at most biking applications. Not dissing you in anyway man but I think your putting it on quite the pedestal. I love my 14 for its all around effort at being a great motorcycle.

No argument here Niner9!
I just said chase, not out run. Or even catch a similar skill level rider on a 750.
I'd much rather have a KTM R8 to beat the jap sport bikes or the Ducatis.
As it was the 14 was fun to leave blackies all over the track or blast down long straits.
But trying to out brake (even with the 14s great brakes) any 'real" sport bikes isnt going to happen. Nevermind trying to hold tight lines.
Track days are for fun and I know I had a ball. And turned decent lap times for a Old Guy on a fat bike.
Rossi on a 14....., funny picture.
