Rods & pistons
What is the best setup to go for regarding rods and pistons for a boosted application??
Standard length Carrilo rods and 9.5 low compression JE pistons?? Or would you guys suggest a shorter rod than OE??
Looking forward to opinions.

I believe dubious was talking about his setup in the stroker thread.

The pro's are all running -2mm rods, carillo or falicon, and turbo pistons with +2mm taller compression height (+2mm deck above top ring)
JE makes a nice piston as does CP, both using stock rings.
MTC also makes stout piston for turbo application and -2mm rods and uses BIG rings, and massive oil scavenging abilities.
Either way, pistons can take more beating on the exhaust valve releif before blowing the top ring land away.
Its added insurance for boost, but not necessary below 10 lbs boost with the right tune, fuel and timing.
Are you addicted and looking to turn it up?
or did the pistons pop already?

Haha, nop not yet....I'm just thinking of what rods and pistons to go for in the near future to make the engine more reliable.
Re. the -2mm shorter rod which you mentioned, is this a good idea?? Wouldnt a shorter rod increase the angle's that the rod would go through every revolution??
Or is it a case of sacrifiesing rod length in order to increase ring land?
Cheers.

i've never seen a piston on a zx14 melt at the exhaust valve .. alway been the intake valve side .. and from what i learned on my bike ..it don't really matter on what kind of piston you have .. but at least when the J&E turbo pistons melted it didn't take out the case's .. testing ceramic coating also this time..
but i just wish the guys thats all fried piston or busted rods with turbo zx14's would just share info.. but instead its a big fukkin secret ..

Thats the biggest thing i hate about bike guys everything is a fuckin mystery, ya there are a few out there that share info but but if everyone would just speak up we all would be going ALOT faster

There's a lot more busa information floating around than any zx1* .
If it were not for the help from a very select few this site would be 100% entertainment and 0 % helpful.
There is no teamwork on the kawasaki side. It took Brock (a suzuki guy) to bring us a decent pipe with a map that didn't REQUIRE dyno session to get close, and customer service that would help you with the same courtesy they took your order.
We have people come here to advertise their magic feats with stock engines, but not a single bit of information.

shane .i'm not asking for the secret tuning ..just like to know what happen to a motor when it craps out .. can't see where that would be taking info from the fast guys .. fast guys shitt blows up too.. and all they have to say is what gave up on the piston ..where it melted or which rod busted

See...but keeping the motor alive is the key to going fast and getting the points. Hence, the secrets.

John, the rod to stroke ratio is well above 1.8:1 still, so angles are still very safe, and the turbo pistons have longer skirts, to alleviate the skirt / wall scuffing from the very slight angle change.
Usually gusy who change the rod length are running stroker cranks for the displacement, so the change is doubled compared to just the rod for out purposes.
Most gusy running GSXR and ZX10 monoblocks are also doing the same, -2mm rod, stock crank.
The busa guys don't have to -2mm rod since they can put a spacer under the cylindersand the stock piston design
