I remember in the 1986 Isle Of Man Production TT when Trevor Nation was the first of several Suzuki GSX-R1100's home. Nothing else came near and all the other manufacturers went back to the drawing board.

I think it's called leapfrog. Next year it will be somebody else's turn to be king of the hill.

Did anyone see World Superbikes at the Weekend? It's still Ducati and Suzuki at the track.

BobC,

I think it's a little too early in the season to make that call. We know Ducati will be at the front, but Suzuki did extensive testing at Philip Island when none of the other manufactures did. There were several other riders that performed well and a few were riding less than 100% (Haga, Toseland). Did you see in race 2 where Rea ran off track and got back in 16th place...look where he finished. The Aprilia and the BMW ran strong as well. I think Crutchlow and Toseland will be in the mix as well. I'll be interested to see how well the Suzuki's do at the next stop.

Yes, I agree it's too early to predict how the season will develop. What I was drawing attention to was that having the best bike on the road doesn't guarantee track success and visa versa. I think Rea is a very good prospect, I met him the other year when he was still in World Supersport for Ten Kate Honda, a really nice guy. When he remembers not to leave the door open he's unbeatable.

Yep...BMW has good riders but the teams are still on a learning curve. I'll be interested to see with the old Ducati team leader heading to BMW to see how they perform during the second half of the year.

I can't agree more BobC, I think Rea and Crutchlow will be some of the best riders in the sport in a few years. I just hope we see competition in MotoGP like we see every week in WSBK.

I figure this will set some twisty tracks records from the new advanced RR . Not going to happen on any drag strips though.

Ya never know.......they're gettin' over 190 factory hp, may be possibilities there to create one of the highest hp litre class rides at the drag strip.......props to beemer for the phat new ride!!

Its missing the size & torque needed and that 190 HP is from extreme RPM very effective on the twisty circuit. But this bike will not be a player at the strip its just not made for it.
This is a great bike and I believe I was one of the first to rave about the RR here for that kind of riding and only that kind of riding.

Yes I believe if you buy this bike for canyon carving ect you will be happy . Getting one of these for the strip would be a bad choice . That will still be ZX & Busa territory.

maybe'but the track was brand new and the racer had himself set the previous track record just before on his own gsxr. So not really a long standing or even a serious track record in that sense...

Wow, that info makes this thread even more lame!

I have just renamed my driveway to "Valley Motorsports Park". I set the track record in my F150 this morning. Send out a press release.

Shane, great post - BMW already proved it wrong

quote:
BMW Market Shares Increased

" The announcement of increased market share corresponds with the popular brand expanding its American dealer network by eight in the past five months. The new authorized dealers include a pair of Pennsylvania dealerships, along with locations in New Jersey, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah and Washington. "

But no matter what your perception on/off the race tracks are and what articles I post up about BMW (that I didn't write) Brock said it all about the new beemer !

Whatever, Steve! Do you work for BMW? If not, they should hire you to be part of the marketing campaign. They are writing the payola checks faster than they can build bikes and deliver them to market!!

Pathetic!!
