Successful flies removal - thank you Bikeland.org

Over the last couple of months, I have been reading up on the secondary flies removal. Ordered the 12" JIS screwdriver, purchased a propane torch, and went to work.

The whole procedure took less than an hour, and every screw came out without difficulty.

I believe that using a JIS screwdriver and heating the screwdriver tip to a cherry red color, was they key.

Here are a few pictures:

Can't wait until the 12" of snow in my yard melts, so that I can do a test run.

Also installed a custom PC fuel map onto my PC5, and set the TPS and Accelerator pump.

The bike is a 2008, I bought it last summer from a dealer near Milwaukee for $8,500 as a brand new left-over.

Currently have 6,000 miles on the bike. Just replaced the front & rear tires with Pirelli Diablo Supersports.

The OE rear tire lasted 3,000 miles and I got another 3,000 miles out of a BT016.

My previous bike was a 2006 Hayabusa. It was a great bike until the transmission let go at 30,000 miles - bad 2nd gear.

Yeah I was glad to get mine out. It's a good feeling.

Probably won't get much feedback here on this forum. These guys aren't impressed unless you strap a rocket on the side of the bike and have wings that come out at 230mph.

They are carbon fiber slip-ons, and they gave a true 19.5 pound weight savings over the stock OEM exhaust system.

The fly removal on your 08 wont do much if anything at all.Maybe a little under 4 gs.now you will need a new map and maybe a dyno tune. if you ride the twistys like I do spend your money on better gearing that really makes a diffrence.

08 fly removal opinions

Nice bike zx11rider. I also have an 08 and removed my flys as well, and love it.The diferance is very noticable when wacking the throttle from idle as it now reves with you wrist not by a computer. The secondis when the bike starts to wheely and can npw be modulated by rider input instead of suddenly going wot in the air. Zx14fan says itdoesnt make much differance, but bet his are still out as is every one elses that have been removed. Just my 02 cents worth.

oh yeah...you don't have enough power on tap as it sits, better regear it. You can't use the power you got now in stock form, how the hell you gonna use it regeared?

If you REALLY want to spend your money wisely to ride the twisties, spend it on SUSPENSION, not a regear. THAT will make a difference.

Glad you pulled the flies, bike now revs like it should. Is it as big a difference as the 06-07? No, but still an improvement.

Suspension ,flies, and tires that are designed for the type of riding you are doing most.
Such as Michelin pilot power 2ct's that do pretty much anything you want 'em to do

Michelin pilot power 2ct's the duel compound sport tires are good for the money I prefer the Pirelli Super Corsa 03 compound for the twistys myself .

The stock suspension dosent need any money spent on it but it does need some tweeks depending many factors ( weight how and where you ride).the gearing has nothing to do with overall hp,it has to do with making the bike pull harder out of the turns at a lower rpm and when you ride in the tight suff like we do here on the coast thats what works best. The stock gearing is really way to high for that app.On the 06 and 07 the fys out helps much not on the 08-or later.this subject has been killed to death.people will fight over this subject. just look at the dyno sheet before and after the flys out.If its an 08 or later its not worth doing after the pc and a dyno tune.If you ride the twistys do the whole fly thing then change the gearing you will notice that the rpms come up so much faster that the flys become a non issue in or out.

You can't even come close to using stock power/gearing on the street as it is...if you think you are...you are fooling yourself. There is already too much power available for street surfaces/tires. Mere mortals as we are are NOT GP gods like we think we are....
