I read it, good article. I have a hard time wrapping my head around seeing BMW's at the strip but if this bike is the real deal I bet we see some. I have always been a fan of BMW's cars but I just can't warm up to the bike side. There is no doubt that the engineering will be second to none but as drag racers we either break things or elect to replace things instead of wearing them out. Not to mention, I have a BMW dealership locally, not many can say that. The problem with my local dealership is they have all the major brands but Honda and they are a major pain to deal with. I can get my Kawasaki parts from the several dealers that are close. For me, I am loyal to a fault, I will forgo a little performance to ride green. I rode the 12 when the Busa was clearly the bike to beat. Here's the thing, as many of you know, many Busa's did get beat by 12's, 10's, gixxers, etc. I will stick with my aging 14, its hard to believe I am heading into my fifth year on this bike, and I will run whatever lines up on the other side, whether it be a Suzy or a beemer.

It's kind of sad to take that bike and turn it into a drag bike when it's so bitchin in the twisties. I think I'll stick to my big bike with a good clutch for drag racing and possibly get something more fun to ride for the turny stuff.

wow,
Thats got my attention.
I am most impressed with the valvetrain and engine performance, but it sounds like they covered every other aspect of the bike as well.
Handling, weight, brakes, and power!
I haven't even considered buying a new bike until I read that article.
Not to replace my 14, but as alternate... street bike for the twisties.
I guess rider ability is almost unecessary now with ABS, DTC and gear shift assist.
I am not so impressed with that, as any squid could outride me with that bike from the sounds of it. However, even the best technology won't turn dumb to smart.
I think allot of these bikes will end up overshooting apexes, due to excessive rider confidense.
Might have to let it shake out for a year of production, so the bugs are worked out and then pull the trigger.
I hate being the first model year owner guinea pig,

It looks like a very well desingned bike and I would even consider owning one. The only drawback that I see is repair costs if its going to be used for drag racing. It reminds me of the R1, like Brock mentioned as well. The R1 is fast as hell but can't launch at the track and replacement cluthces are very expensive as well as other parts. There probably won't be to many companys making aftermarket drag racing parts for it and if they do all of the parts will be through the roof. Shit, ZX14 stuff is high compared to Busa stuff..............Its all about supply and demand but what do I know?

HTP is racing one this year in super street, Brock is on board, Tim hays has a Convertible clutch in the works for it, and adams and NLR have even chimed in a few times about it on psychobike in some of the threads. I think that everyone is trying to give it a fair shot. I believe HTP was looking for it to make 205+ hp in SS tune.

now thats alot like a stocker .. were i thing the rule is you can do anything you want to the bike but have to run the stock clutch ..
i just want to see a stocker run .. then add extensions and a strap .. that will tell alot about how fast it really is

I can't get past the looks of that bike. Nothing is symmetrical!
I hate it when 1 headlight is on instead of 2 much less having 2 different sized headlights lol!
Heck I like dual exhaust for that same reason.
Imho of course

I am with you on the looks, I like what I see except for the headlight area, kind of looks like they are targeting the hooligan, streetfighter crowd. My problem is those guys pride themselves on building a bike that is cheap from jumpstreet and can look right at home with a duct tape rapair job.

Just not buyin into the crap yet. I'm salivatin at the chance 2 smoke one and I will, oh yes I will just like I do 2 the new boozas and dat ugly V-Max, roll ons in second gear on the Jersey TP will tell the tail.

Oh yeah, the 12 was fast as hell. My buddy use 2 smoke me on his when I had my booza. His was an 03 stock, mine had some mods and he use 2 lose me. I rode it as hard as I could and still was gettin spanked. I knew I was the better rider to. Pretty much the reason why I hoped off my 02 booza and got my 14. Mod for mod the best bang for the money and for all out balls is the 14. Dat includes the new booza, V-Max and so on.

08 was the second year of production for the 07-08 gsxr 1000.
Kawasaki and Honda had new liters for that year out of the big 4.

BMW has made these claims repeatedly during the last 30 years.

Brock did mention a super tall 1st gear as being an issue with the bike, when I posed a question a while back about the ZX10 not being well represented in 1000SS people commented on the very tall 1st gear being a big problem with the ZX10 so now BMW is obviously throwing money around so it seems the aftemarket is rallying around this bike tall 1st gear or no. ZX10's were always acknowledged as having great engines and the aftermarket, drag racing aftermarket that is stayed away so now to me it seems if the manufacturer does not get behind the bike the aftermarket will stay away..like they did with the ZX10 a bike with a great powerplant and no support from Kawasaki....sad. Will be interesting to see the #'s this BMW puts down and how it will hold up,supposedly BMW has done extensive testing on this bike so durability should not be an issue. Drag racers will cetainly expose any clutch issues it may or may not have.
