I am super impressed with the very bottom end power increase.
I am as supriesed as Lee with the bottom increase and big header tubes.

Guys,
Jess and I spoke in advance: since he is small and uses ballast, he can use the increased average power to accelerate harder without letting up on the gas….and still benefit from what the dyno doesn’t show-the increase in power with the ram air working. Once he pulls it all together----he will FLY.
Gadson did last year and won the championship and set the et record at an 8.90. He ran a 5.79 in the eight and he was the largest rider in the class?!
Gotta wake up in a couple hours to leave for Daytona/Valdosta. See anyone at the Hess? Say hello

Lee, the only thing I can see that's wrong with the comparison of your bike and jesse's is dosent he have head work done? A thin head gasket? His cams degreed? Is the same stuff done to your bike?

I didn't see a huge change in power, but did notice a little (even with my ghetto exhaust tip). As for the header size, it is actually fairly close in size to the Shortmeg. For example, where the midpipe meets the collector is 2.25" OD on the Shortmeg is around 2.30" on the CT. The spigot design is different on the CT, and more free-flowing.
My initial impressions:
quote:
Note the height of the primary tubes....definitely more clearance with CT:

As you can see, the bends of the exhaust are very similar. This indicates to me that Brock did not want to mess too much with a good thing. We already know the pipes make great power, so that is understandable.
Next I measured the exhaust spigots for both and the pipe ID for the new CT:
First, the Shortmeg header spigots:

Next the CT header spigot:

As you can see, the CT spigots are much larger. That is because the header pipes slide inside the spigot, instead of vice-versa. This eliminates any restriction.
In order for this to be useful, the CT header would have to be larger in ID than the standard spigots:

It is indeed about 2mm larger than the standard spigots. So, these new CT spigots will definitely remove a restriction. I imagine that this would really benefit a ported head or larger motor to an even greater extent.
Just to compare clearance, here are a couple of photos. In this first photo, the box pictured will not slide under the Shortmeg header...even though it has been flattened already:

Here you can see that it easily clears the header pipe on the CT:

There appears to be more than 1/2" additional clearance on the lower rightmost tube. The leftmost lower tube is not as big as an issue since it is in the center of bike and not as subject to contact during leaning.
More info and dyno charts here:

Exhaust clearance comparisons here:
http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=27&TID=40269&pagenumber=55
I have since switched to the TiWinder, but I really liked that CT.

Just got the CT duals finished up. Should be putting it on a dyno next week. It is harder to keep the front tire down above 8000 in 1st and 2nd.

nice duals! That looks pretty trick! I have always liked just single exhaust, but I was surprised it took a company so long to fill the dual market niche. Post up some vids!

I'm sure that the miles and pounding that Jesse's bike have taken more than make up for that thin headgasket.

If it makes 5 more HP I would consider buying it. How do you feel about the sidewinder HP numbers vs. the SMEG? I never ride on the street and from my understanding the SW makes more power than the SMEG.

As you can see on the charts it made more that 5 hp in spots , closer to 8 hp at 7400 ..I can't tell you if the CT sw makes more than the old smeg because i never tested one ..

On the Dyno chart you posted was that a comparison of the old SMEG header vs. the new CT header? Both on your bike?

The dyno charts are in my thread. My Smeg with custom muffler, vs. my CT with a small exhaust tip. Both on my bike, with MR9.

That thead is going to be retired soon....I keep saying.
I've been trying to let it go quietly into the night. But there is no reason to repost the CT vs. Shortmeg info completely verbatim in this thread!

That is very true ...The last time i had Jesses bike on the dyno was with a Smeg and thin head gasket ...It had the same map as it does now .. First pull sucked 159 ... Reset his TPS setting witch was way off and it jumped to 163 .. I played with his map some but never got more than 163 so i put the map back in as it came from Brock .. I was thinking 10000 miles , a turbo and a butt load of spray had taken it toll on his motor ..I was very happy to see his HP back to 171 with the CT pipe ..But i feel Jesse motor is still down on power due to all the beating it has taken since 2006 ..

Sorry i missed your post .. Yes degreed cams and thin head gasket ... The cam were degreed put back to factory spec so i didn't think we would see a gain with cam timming ... I thought we would see a gain with the thin head gasket but never did .. Jesses ET and MPH remained the same ...As i posted before i feel the thin head gasket by itself was a waste of my time and 60.00 for the gasket ...Maybe in combo with head work ( porting ) the thin gasket my be of some help ..
