quote: The way ram pressure recovery works is the opposite of what you would think. Adding inlet area with out revising the duct .... not likely to work well.
You do not want a duct after the opening that's cross sectional area is reducing. In other words a "funnel" to catch "more" air doesn't work.
You first size the frontal area to the demand of the air requirement and then size the duct work accordingly. The air need to slow down once it enters the inlet. The rate that you slow the air down has a large effect on the pressure recovery. To slow the air down you need to have the duct to be getting larger as it gets to the airbox.
Its more like a reverse funnel where the inlet is the small end of the funnel and the volume is set by the size of the small end of the funnel heading into the wind.
the whole reason the Hans Monster Snorkel didnt work on the 12.

I didn't buy it though.
My bike was voted bike of the month last year on his website. Part of the prize was the ram air scoop, along with T-shirts, 5 quarts of Amsoil, cleaning supplies, numerous lubricants, a video camera tank mount, and some decals. Greg informed me that the scoop was not intended for drag racing, that any improvements in HP would come above 140 MPH or so. But he asked me to try it just for the heck of it, hell it was free so why not. Its been on my bike ever since. Didn't see any changes, but I sure get alot of compliments about how cool it looks, lol!!

I have never had a bad dealing with him.
Greg has always been fair to me, friendly and courteous, and I have never paid more than the other shops want for the same part.
I don't have a scoop, but I have bought injectors, modified fuel rail, and some other stuff from him.

Kawasaki knows a thing or two about aero's, they devolop these bikes in wind tunnels, I think if a scoop helped it would already be on there. Remember, when they developed this bike it was under a ton of scrutiny from everywhere including some of us Kaw guys for under-delivering on the 12. If you like the look throw it on, why not, as long as it doesn't hurt performance run with it. BTW, taking off your mirrors will pick up two tenths and 8-10 mph. Oh, and 12hp on the dyno.

I think the air intake is a lil restricted per United States Laws, all vehicles are some what.
I personally would never put on any of Gregs gimmicks.
I can see taking off your mirrors gains 2 tenths and 8-10 mph...But how dose that gain 12 hp on the dyno ?... Taking off your mirrors?! Clairify jarhead...Thank you SIR!

Just kidding, I don't think removing the mirrors does much if anything. I have been running with mine on since new and am finally going to remove them this year due to the 14 mainly being a track bike. I like the look of mirror delete and I am constantly hitting the mirrors on the side of the trailer when loading the bike. Sorry, that was my feeble attempt at humor!

Any intake system is a compromise. Meaning, it cannot be optimized for all speed and rpm ranges. In the case of the 14, it can be improved for top speed use. Now, whether or not this HPC flap is an improvement is open for debate...but it can be easily tested under race conditions.
Regarding the mirrors, the performance gain from removing them is easily measured in Land Speed Racing.
