HPC Ram Air Scoop ?

I know how we all feel about Greg @ HPC.
But what about this Ram Air Scoop that he claims makes 4 more h.p. ?
Does anyone here have it?
I was thinking about sealing my air box up from any leaks...
Maybe cut out the low beams, open up the ram air scoop and making a HUGH ram air mouth ... Since my bike will be down for awhile...its HOT ROD TIME!!!
I hardly ever drive at night,so loosing the low beams wouldn't effect me at all. This would get MUCH more air...
What do you think fellas?

Busas got ram air scoops too . A good friend of mine has 'em on his.
No way to tell by dyno or just by riding if there is a powergain.
Unless you do a before and after test at a mile racetrack.
I think it's about coolness factor ...

Maybe 4hp gain but at 140 and above, which HPC mention, how much more drag is created? It probably cancels out.

The way ram pressure recovery works is the opposite of what you would think. Adding inlet area with out revising the duct .... not likely to work well.

You do not want a duct after the opening that's cross sectional area is reducing. In other words a "funnel" to catch "more" air doesn't work.

You first size the frontal area to the demand of the air requirement and then size the duct work accordingly. The air need to slow down once it enters the inlet. The rate that you slow the air down has a large effect on the pressure recovery. To slow the air down you need to have the duct to be getting larger as it gets to the airbox.

Its more like a reverse funnel where the inlet is the small end of the funnel and the volume is set by the size of the small end of the funnel heading into the wind.

I just looked at this item from HPC and it doesnt appear to be increasing the inlet area rather it looks like its trying to increase the pressure in front of the duct.... ???

I dont know what actual effect this would have.... But I do know someone who would.... I'll ask.
