Spark knocking?

I have a 08 14 with just slip-on's. It has ran like a champ for 15000 miles. I moved up here to washington and ive noticed light spark pinging when i roll into the throttle quickly. It never did this before. The bike has been well maintained, and I have keep clean fresh 92 or better gas in it and always have. I'm wondering if the 30-50 degree dry air has something to do with it? Should I be concerned? its not very bad, but I wanted to look into it a bit and get some input on this. Thanks

If you are hearing it , it's not good ! Do a plug reading now ! Maybe you just have a plug going out anyway , and also make sure all your air intake ducts are on and tight. Get you a Power Comander , and a good map before you fry a piston!

I think 15k on a set of plugs is enough miles on'em. Its time to change them out. Also check the gaps on the plugs before you install them .I dunno why but there's always a few that are off even though they're new.

Ive changed them with the recomended interval in the manual. The plugs are pulled out now, they look fine and are gapped to spec, they needed no adjustment. I really think the slip on exhaust and this very cool dry air here in washington is causing the motor to run to lean, The bike makes more power here than it did in TX but at the same time the motor is pinging lightly when you roll into the throttle. When you get to full throttle there is no more pinging. I did not have this problem in Houston's warm humid air. Will a lean motor make spark ping? Im not against getting a power commander and a good map done, but I want to be sure before i shell out the cash it will fix my problem.. After all I am also paying for school..

Have you tried a different gas station? Could be reacting to the brand of gas you are using.
And yes running lean will cause pinging.

Yes I have tried several, even one with seperate pump handles for each grade to make sure i was getting a full tank of what I paid for and not a gallon of what the last person bought. So A power commander is my only option on richening up the motor?

Yes get a P/C and have it tunned ... Or if you don't have the cash right now just get some 104 octane booster , Most auto parts stores carry it ..

Add some VP race gas to every tank or the 104 octane booster. Won't ping no more!

Got it!! It was the intake tubes, they were very loose. I have a 95% reduction in the spark pinging now. If I snap the throttle to full at lower revs under a load, I might get one or two pings. I will try a full tank of fresh gas and new plugs to see if that helps.

Both the top and bottom clamps were loose enough to wiggle around with my fingers.

Run a can of Seafoam cleaner through her and see if it doesn't help. 15000 miles on the clock they are proabally gummed up pretty bad. Look at Smokin's post about a little time on the dyno.
