PC3 buttons
Is it just a bad idea to "tamper" with the installed map this way? (enrichening or leaning it) Ive never done it but I remember reading about it in the install instructions way back. Is this just the wrong way to modify a given map? Ive heard it's a no no but what if it's a bad map...and well...buttons need to be pushed sometimes..ie altitude,hot summer desert, bad gas mileage.

If you feel tempted to play with the buttons make sure you have the original map saved onto a pc before you begin.
How were you going to measure the effect of any changes you make?

I've heard that the buttons don't actually change the cells. I believe it modifies the existing map, but it won't register as changes if you pull the map off the pciii. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It's about learning at this point. I guess without an o2 sensor it's a guess and seat of the pants which is a bad plan for me. I was curious for instance if you were slabbing it why waste the gas. Idling just burns the eyes from rich. I just want info at this point. also does anybody mess with the maps while looking at the program on the pc. Some cells are quite a difference comparing maps. I would agree that a custom tune is the way to go so you have an accurate fuel air ratio. Does anybody blend numbers from known decent maps? Does pouring down rain vs 115 deg desert heat make a map better at different times of the year? someday when our ECU is tweakable. the pc3 will become obsolete. just asking questions is all

you are correct, without a proper way to see your air/fuel ratio, then the buttons are just for a "seat of the pants" type feeling. i honestly have no idea why the heck they put those on there. ive ran many power commanders and never touched those buttons. i believe if the exhaust burns your eyes at idle it means its really really really rich. i do remember on some maps the cells have numbers in the idle position + or -. why add or subtract fuel when youre not going anywhere?! i removed those numbers and it seemed to help the exhaust issue.
i have also used some numbers from different maps. i use the "map compare" feature ALOT.
