That article was worthless. They couldn't come up with any definite answer. They basically just danced around the issue the whole article was intended to answer.

They were neutral for sure but thats to be expected since its a main line for diffrent companys to advertise. But the point was made clear from the test that mc oil should be used in motorcycles though at the end they didnt want to say it.

Hey Roy, That would have been even more interesting to see an already good product up the ante in that test. I'll hold out for API testing data if it's shared with us. I guaranty Rotella T has exceeded the standards of API testing to pay that much to get the label on the bottle. Oh yeah Shell just released the oil not to long ago with the JASO spec. I believe this test was done early in 09.

The article was probably written in 08v (Published 2/09). It looks like the JASO MA cert came in mid 08?
I didn't know it carried the cert until recently.

I'm not saying this was the cause, but I did toast a clutch in the 14 and in Racheals Gixxer while running 10/40 Penzoil car oil.
I ran car oil for many years without issue, but I got a little gun shy after that.

even before the JASO cert, it has been recommended for cars with flat tappet cams since 2000 when the additives were taken out of automotive oils.... and alot of bike folks ran it , mainly because it didn't have the friction modifiers ( might be bad for clutches). Oils for compression ignition engines were not limited like gas engines.
Just looks like they they didnt want to use a good oil in there comparison.

So what brand and weight oil do you guys use? Synthetic or not? I respect y'all guys opinions on these bikes 10x more than anyone else. I'm just running 10w40 dino castrol motorcycle oil and feel I might be cheating my bike?

Any synthetic would be a plus from what your using now. For ultimate everyday usage for engine and gear case longivity a 10w40 MC synthetic with that JASO MA/MA2 specification is best.

I believe there are a lot of good oils out there. I run rotella synthetic and the main reason is it's so easy to get, walmart! $19 gallon. Second I've been running it for a couple years now and I've yet to replace a clutch!! I'd guess 400 passes on my 06 clutch and I know I'm getting close to 150-200 passes on my 08. That's why I use car oil!

With oar oil pan you can just buy the gallon and it's just enough to fill it up!
