Secondary throttle shafts

Hey guys

Obviously I'm going to remove the secondaries on my 14 motor. I read on here somewhere about a guy that was flow testing a 14 head said he saw a noticable flow increase when the shafts were removed also. Has anyone tried removing the shafts?

I'm not sure if the ecu tells the servo motor to open the flys and then uses the TPS to verify that the flys responded appropriately and adjusts the fuel map, "or" if the ecu is just monitoring the position of the flys and adjusting the map based on that.(and other things of course)

I'm wondering if the shafts are taken out if we would have to maybe mount the TPS on the servo motor with a "dummy" shaft to fool the ecu into believing the secondaries are behaving normally, or if we could simply send the ecu the correct voltage to simulate flys wide open.

Any ideas?

Roger

I don't think it would make that big of a difference, because you still have the first set of butterfly valves, so it's not like it would be a open flow.

cool idea. It can't hurt to make it flow better, no matter how little improvement you got. An improvement is an improvement.

Try the search function. There was a guy on here that gave step by step instructions on removal with throwin an FI code. It was a really good write up.

Not being a dick Quarter Pounder, but knife edging anything in the intake track is way old school and hurts, air flow, more than it helps.any porter that is worth his salt will tell you the same Bro.round smooth edges help to improve flow while knife edging causes shear in the intake track which may be placing air where it doesn't need to be.

I don't suppose you'd have a link to the write up? Can't seem to find it.

Thanks, Roger

Very interesting reading, has anone done any comparisons on a dyno, or track testing with the shafts out?

I was interesting that the guy running the 14 motor in a race car just unplugged the servo and turned the sub throttle TPS wide open. Without a display he doesn't know if it codes or not, but sounds like it runs good.

Has anyone tried this test: With the ignition off, unplug the servo and clamp the secondary shaft in the wide open position.(flys or no flys) This would simulate no servo motor and the TPS set at wide open. How does it run??? I don't care if it codes as long as it doesn't go into limp home mode.

It would be nice to get rid of the flys, the servo, "and" the shaft! Food for thought, I didn't see in the write up if anyone tried this arrangement.
