Another gearing question?
My question is for the non drag racers.Has anyone messed around with the gearing for the twistys? I was thinking about a 16 tooth, a small change but I dont want to give up too much rpm for the fast stuff.we ride alot up the coast here in ca but in central california the roads are fast. Whats your opinion on this app?

Ooo your talking about the right turn after the shutdown area! Or are you talking about allthe twisties you have to do to get through the crowd at the starting line?

since I no nothing about drag racing gearing, let me give this a try
remove secondaries and run stock gearing, power will come on linear thru the apex.

ZX, I am probably the only other one on this site who does twisties like you. I was thinking of going to the 16th tooth as I seldom go over 130 mph up here in the Gold Country.

A 16T front sprocket is actually a big change on the street.
I don't drag my 14, it's a street bike. I run a 16 front and swap b/n
a 42 and 43 rear with a 190/55 tire.
One thing to keep in mind is that the monstrous torque of the 14 will
sometimes force you to use 3rd gear where it will strictly be 2nd gear on
a liter bike (or smaller), so it's best to put the 16T front and just mess with
the rear and find what suits your riding style IMHO.
You absolutely need the shortest possible wheelbase too, combined with a
taller rear tire to sharpen steering- quite the opposite of a smaller bike where
the longer wheelbase helps cornering stability and wheelies.
Hope this helps

Not the only one, the straight at the track is the stretch infront of the paddock for me.
Track days and tight twisties FTW! Just not always on a 14.

I run 17/42 on the street, seems to work better than stock even though it's only marginally lower gearing. Also been thinking of trying a 180/55 as it's taller & the profile is better for quickening up the turn in.

I loved 16/41 for the street. Stock is 17/41 just so you know. -1 up front allows you to have a bunch more torque available at any point.

You were missing some torque? Mine must of got your missing torque, it wants to flip over every time I dial it up!

When you're riding the really tight stuff, it's nice to be able to pull 3rd rather then worrying about spinning coming out in 2nd. -1 allows you to ride aggressively but pull the bike hard out of corners with torque rather then wheelying or spinning in 2nd.

Key will be shedding some weight of the 14, lots and lots to give on this bike.
Getting lighter aftermarket wheels will do miracles for handling.
If on a tight budget- the 08-10 zx10r front oem wheel is a direct swap
and is much lighter, it will sharpen steering noticebly.
The stock 14 suspension is garbage, investing in some $prings is a must.
Needless to say, a good set of tires is a must too.
PP 2CT or Corsa III is what I dig, both dual compounds.
