GSXR1000 track day

I had the opportunity to run a 1k today and regretfully say it's the funnest bike I've ever ridden. It was more my size and I was able to use 6 gears and needed a 7th for my skinny ass. My best pass was 8.81 at 158. Those things rev like 600's do. No, i' m not selling the 14 but I really just loved that bike.

I never ride em !(GXXR1s) Even though I would love to have one , I don't care to know if I could outdo my 14 on one? My buddies swear their 1000s are faster than 14s? I never doubt the ability of a Gxxsr1 , but most riders just can't tame it ! Hey Wheeliee , can I try your new Gixxee out?

If I remember correctly the only mods are cams, yoshi exhaust and yoshi map. Don't remember the wheelbase, but it was short.

Yes, its has 2 intake cams or 2 exhaust cams can't remember which. Yosh pipe with Yosh map off of their website. He claims thats it. I am not positive though but he seemed like a straight up guy. The 1000 is just really hard to get to leave. I was leaving at 7K and had really clean passes it just doesnt front half like the 14 does. His bike was roughly 4inches over stock. Not sure what that makes the wheel base on that bike.

05 and 06 (and newer) GSXR1000's have taller 1st and 2nd gear that really hurts them for dragracing. But it helped them on the road track. If you want to make a 05/06 a really good dragrace bike put a complete 01-04 trans. in it with the lower 1st and 2nd gear. I did my 06. with the 3 piece cases you don't even have to spilt the main cases. Then you will 60' ft like a pro and the clutches will last a lot longer. I really like the 1000's but they are small. my 06 1000 with a brocks Smeg, Cometic thin head gasket, Lee's cams with adjustable sprockets/head work and PC made 191 HP on the Dyno on motor, 236 with a dry kit. .

Makes sense, because first gear made it to what seemed like after the 330' but the just went through the gears almost too fast after that. Thanks more useful info.

The 07s seem to be the bike to have for drag racing. I've ridden one once at the track and they are extremely difficult to launch. They sure are fun though. They feel like a magic carpet compared to the zx14!

Always wanted a GSXR 1000, a lot of riders in FL have them and when there's a group of us running higher speeds they always seemed to never get left behind. After I get some experience running the 14, a 1000 would be nice to compare. Glad you had fun nooby! Hey I just got your PM, but I closed the box prematurely. Next time run in Orlando, I would like to check out the scene and watch the techniques of the veterans. You are the only local guy with a 14 that drags(keep in mind I just moved here 18 months ago)

I have an 06 GSXR1000 with a spun bearing and an 04 GSXR1000 with 06 motor that I have not finished putting back together(kicked a valve shim out). both bikes bodywork is in the attic. One day I will get around to fixing them again. The 07/08 GSXR1000 have the same crankshaft and bottom end as the 05/06 models but have a different head. The 05/06 ones are light and make good bikes. That or an old 96 - 99 GSXR750 SRAD with a Busa motor. it's almost a bolt in.

Had both the 06 and an 08 GSXR1000 and sold them both. After owning both I can honestly say that I think the 06 is the better bike of the two. I sort of regret selling the 06 but I'm more than happy with my ZX14 and would not sell it to own another 1k although I would like to have another one for a second bike. If I have to settle for only one bike it will be the 14.

The 14 has always been a good bike. I really liked the ones I had. The 1000's are small and break pretty easy dragracing. I like the 05-06 the best.
