I'm no drag racer but how much faster does an extra 25 lbs cut off your time? I would think sharpening your skills at the strip and being in the best possible shape (no excess fat and healthy amount of muscle) so you'll have sharp reflexes would be the best way to go. Once you've reached your potential as a drag racer then start looking to drop that extra 10-15 lbs off the bike.

Dude...I'm 160lbs and in excellent shape. See signature line. Potential as a racer for me is seat time.

Getting excess weight off the bike is free HP and ET. So why your slack comment?

well if it's weight you can take off for free then I'm all for that. Just don't understand the 260lb guys paying top dollar to shave 4lbs off their bike.

some of us carry the weight quite well. If you saw me you wouldn't think I weight 195-200. Only place I can loost weight is my gut. It's a lot easier to unbolt 4 lbs than it is to eat healthy while working on the road

The usual

Mirrors, footpeg brackets, tool kit, single brake up front, run the lowest amount of oil/fuel you feel comfortable with. You can only do so much by simply removing stuff. Sooner or later you have to drop some serious coin to keep going lighter....from lightweight batteries, race bodywork, lighter wheels it gets pricey. Just the way it goes.

Yank:

the subframe supports, helmet lock, the plastic box that tool kit sits in, the horn, bar ends,
the side stand (get a front wheel chock), the chain guard, the tank cowl...

It all depends how far you are willing to go with stripping it down.
Race fairings with no front or rear lights will shed a lot of weight.

Aside from the headlights, you won't lose a ton of weight with race fairings. The rear tail light is only 8 ounces, and the signals are not very heavy either. In some cases the fiberglass is heavier than the factory plastic as well.

I know this because I have full race fairings here and I have weighed them. The factory plastic is very light once you remove the extraneous dampers and brackets.

Your most effective savings would be just the race upper with no headlights, and a Catalyst seat. However, at stock wheelbase you will find the bike more wheelie-prone without the headlight, unless you relocate some weight.

For "free" weight loss:

Tool Kit
Bar end weights
Passenger peg brackets
Mirrors
Footpeg rubbers
Foam and Insulating pads
Small lower fairing and bracket (in front of the rear wheel)

If you want to spend a little money, get a Speedcell battery and you will drop 10 lbs. for under $300. That is for the smaller "Superbike" model, which should be fine in warmer climates (45 degrees and above). They also make a larger one for a little more, that will save you 9.5 lbs.

I'm sure it's "stock" as well right?

Funny how someone always has a "good friend" with something else to run.

These parts are already in the corner of the room on the floor, along with seat latch stuff, several brackets and a few other things....once I am done, I'll get them in a pile and weigh it all up. Appreciate all the inputs on this subject so far.

hmmmmm...I'll have to look at that support...hadn't thought of that one. Good call since it won't have a passenger on it. Helmet lock on the floor already, tool box is gone, bar ends are off, will have to see about side stand as I don't have a chock for the ground.

What do you mean "tank cowl"?

You should be able to get to 485 lbs or less, with 1.5 gallons of gas. My bike is 20 or so pounds lighter than that, but I have removed the headlight and added aftermarket wheels.

Removing those side subframe support rails will save you close to 2 lbs..

Screw the 1/8th....run the real deal....1320.

A good light will erase any advantage you have. Not to mention that I usually run within a tenth of my best time all day long...consistency.

Tool Kit............ check
Passenger peg brackets...... check
Mirrors...... check
Footpeg rubbers.......... check
Small lower fairing and bracket (in front of the rear wheel)...... check

Bar end weights
Foam and Insulating pads

I would ask how much these weigh, but I'll just try my luck at sifting through our 60 page weight gallery.

I'm kinda hesitant towards taking off the bar end weights because they will help save the plastics if I ever drop the bike.

Man, if you think it's a lot of "work" sifting through the thread....

Imagine taking the 800+ pictures, taking the bike apart, weighing everything and then putting it all back together. And documenting it!

Whew, I'm beat!

As far as how much each part weighs, at this point I don't remember every little piece. I know that the pages where parts are weighed are in the table of contents for the thread.

You've done a most excellent job at documenting things. I don't think I've seen quite a comprehensive teardown, documentation as you've done on your bike. Great resource for anyone with a 14.
