Pipes, power commander, flies out=brain overload
Need some help. I was thinking about getting some pipes for my 2007 zx-14 but all the possibilities are making my head want to explode. I was thinking of maybe getting a pair of slip ons but have read that I still might need a power commander with just those? Then I have read how much better it is to get the full exhausts, take the flies out, and get a power commander. Which leads me to ask how the heck does a power commander work? I know it adjusts the air/fuel mixture but how do I know what the proper ratio is and how do I adjust it with the power commander?

you will need to go to dyno or buy powercommander5 with auto tune or buy a motty afr tuner .i use to have a 06 with slip on and a motty, now i have a 09 with full yosh R77 and motty afr tuner and flys out .the motty is not very popular in zx14 but it is on gixer but it work VERY well on my 06 and 09. A THRUE SELF TUNER.need more informations on the motty e mail me francisnadeau@videotron.ca.

Depends on which exhaust you buy, you can get a map that goes with the exhaust and mods you have done (ex: flies out, air filter, etc) and you download it onto the pc. Really simple procedure after you do it once or twice.
As for which exhaust, it's a matter of opinion. Brocks, muzzy, and area p are prob the biggest names here. You have yoshi slip ons that are ok. IMHO brocks is the best you will buy.

What yoshi pipes (full or slip ons) and with the flies out? Where did you get the map?

My only downside I would see to slip ons is they are almost the same price as a full exhaust. Unless you just like the dials.

If you get a Brocks exhaust you can buy the PowerCommander from them also and it will come with a map already loaded in it. They will load a map in it for the flies out also. I would also recommend get a BMC airfilter also.

A couple of things and these are just opinions so take them if you want. On the exhuast deal I would not spend the money on slip ons. You will get a bit of performance over stock exhaust but not the full benefit and for the price its a no brainer. As far as the Power Commander goes, again you will not get the full performance gain out of your exhaust without a PC. Once you put on the exhaust your bike will breathe much. Most exhaust companies supply a custom MAP for your PC with the purchase of their exhaust. I would certainly consider Muzzys or Brocks exhaust. These two companies have to tons of R&D on the 14. IMO stay away from the Yosh stuff not that they are bad pipes but are rarely used on any Kawasaki. If you owned a Suzuki I would say get Yosh or Brocks. The maps suppllied with Muzzys and Brocks are so spot on you will not need to get your bike dynoed.
Enjoy

I just bought myself a pc3. I have some slip on muzzy's that came with the bike. I saw on power commanders website they have a map for the slip on muzzy's and an aftermarket filter which I have(k&n) this is flies in. What kind of horsepower increase would I be looking at just by adding the pc3 with the muzzy slip ons I already have (flies still in)? This will have to work for a little bit till I can get my bank account back up where I feel comfortable.

You will notice a difference in performance for sure. Pulling the flys is free. It makes a huge difference on the 06-07 models. All you need to do is pull the tank and unscrew the flys. Check Shane661 build thread I think he shows you how to do it step by step.

Would I get much from pulling the flies with slip ons installed? I was gonna wait until I got a full exhaust.

Keep in mind through all of this that most guys here on this site are drag racers. If you ride alot of miles in the twistys like I do you may want to think twice about the pipes. Most are loud after an hour or so and some will buzz your brain in ten min flat.I had new carbon muzzy slip ons and they drove me crazy in one ride so I sold them here that night. There are alot of ideas whos pipes you should by?I would not buy any pipes that I couldnt test on a ride first.through a friend or shop if you can.You can hear some online through you tube but it will really tell you nothing like the real live sound. If you drag race then go for it.All of the above may not do as much as you might think.Gearing does alot depending on the app.Slip ons will help your bike turn better because of the 18 lbs you save and the location of the weight. If you have just the slip ons with flys in save your money on the pc you will not need it.

FYI the muzzy map they gave me was junk and the bike would not run well at all.The guys here that really know there stuff will tell you to buy the brocks pipe and his map if you dont mind the dbs.

your best bet would be the 450 dollar m14 and the pc3 for 160 that is in the classifieds. cheaper than slip ons and will actually make power. IMO the yosh exhausts these days are crap. They don't make very good power and they're heavy as shit. I guess some people have a lot better hearing than i do, because I run a brocks smeg and it's not that loud to me. i also have the gen3 shorty and it's very quiet until you get on it. Any of the oval canister exhausts are going to be fairly quiet. The difference being that yoshimura souns like a stock exhaust with holes drilled in it. Like has been said, pretty much the only good thing about slip ons is saving the weight and making it louder.

The fly removal is free and you can get the map for that set up too. It is the best mod you can do reguardless of which way you decide to go.

in case you did not know, you really need to have a PC when you pull the flies out. The bike gets really lean when you pull the flies out. Keep the questions coming, there is a lot of stuff to learn

You can start a war here over flys.I will say that on my 09 when I was done with all this and the flys out and pc 5 with filter it did very little and only bellow 4 grand.Almost everyone here will tell you to remove the flys but keep in mind above 4 grand it will do nothing and unless you are on the freeway you should never be bellow 4 gs it may not be the best thing for the lower end since the 14 was built for rpm.madkawboy is right you need a pc without the flys.Keep it simple and save your money.or if you have an 06 or an 07 then take them out.

You will be below 4 grand a lot if you ride in any town or ever stop, which you will do some time or another. It's a VERY simple, easy, and free mod!
