New Horsepower King BMW1000rr

Just reading motorcycledaily article on testing done by Akrapovic on 1000rr and its running 185 rwhp. Not bad if that's correct for first time litre bike from beemer.

I wasn't going to say anything just because...but several have reported crazy HP numbers on the BMW, and BMW has asked some to tone it down

and if you really want to see more dyno pulls on the new beemer.... check out mcn.com

or just check out MCN's 2010 litre bike shootout

I'm still waiting to see same day/same dyno tests. I'd also like to see some at some local shops before I believe this bike makes 20+ more hp at the wheel than some of the competition.

Waiting is right.

the R1 for '09 was hyped. I said on this forum and others I wanted one but "the jury is still out". Then come to find out the USA model '09 R1 is WAY under the european model. People on the R1 forum are spending a fortune on YEC race ECU's, ECU "reflashes", european harnesses, etc.

And folks like Bikeland test the new R1 bike and write such like "all this new technology, where's the performance?"

Media hype of new models can be total "hype!"

Too bad the bike is not symmetrical. After all the oohs and ahhhs I just can't get over the looks of the thing.
Both headlights don't match and even both sides of the bike don't match.
Reminds me of little Whitey in adam sandlers 8 Crazy nights with his adult sized 11 left foot and childrens sized 9 right foot ! Lol wtf!

depending on how many bugs the first models have I am thinking of buying one. I don't care if its the fastest as long as it doesn't get left in the dust by the big 4. for me I like the looks of it and like the idea of riding something you wont see a million of. not right away any way

The 1/4 mile mph is indicative of more peak hp...let's see what these bikes do when they hit the streets (and tracks). I don't expect to see many of them at the dragstrips, though.

Personally I hope it does hold up. It would be nice to see something different busting performance asses. Kind of like the reviews of the 14 before/when it first came out....

Yeah my take is we wait and see on this bike, like I said about the heavily 2009 R1 "the jury is still out on this one" and sure enough America got a way toned down version of it than europe.

And now folks are changing to Race YEC UCU's and losing some street features, or installing european harnesses and reflashing ECU's, its a friggin mess and the '09 R1 Yamaha is a fail in my eyes unless one doean't mind a watered down version.

no one else thinks there is a bust between the hp and tq curves?

looking at the tq curves; bmw, suz, kaw hp all should be displaying the same hp at 11500rpm... bmw is up 20hp at 11500???? WTF????

Yes you are right Karl it just don't jive....With that much Horsepower the performance numbers should be off tha charts and not marginal as they are from these posted charts....They are touting the F1 technology that went into this bike and I think its all HYPE and BMW has just figured out that they needed to pay the magazine people to sway the favor in their way for marketing and sales purposes....Get everyone all hyped up about it and sales will follow. This is just another case of a major manufacturer putting out a newly featured motorcycle and paying off the Mags !!!! Just my .2cents

If the torque and rpm are the same, the hp should be equal at that rpm. Something is definitely odd about the charts.

the torque curve is completly flat between 8k and 10k with very little drop after that which i think is very impressive. the r1 and honda have steep drops after 8k-9k and and the others are peaky as hell. with that much linear torque combined with variable intake tract and exhaust power valve or whatever else they cooked up and my experience with german vehicles i am not quite as skeptical as you guys
