Flies Question......AGAIN !!

I was wondering, is having the TRE with flies in, the same effect as having the flies removed and if the flies are removed what will the TRE with flies removed do for performance. Will you have to remap the bike after you remove the flies, with or with out TRE?

you are supposed to re-map either way. If you have the tre, it will open your flies sooner than stock, but no flies is better because they're non-existant and you don't lose your gear indicator like you would with the TRE. It's also costs less to buy a good screwdriver and take them out than it does to buy the tre.

Putting a tre on with the flies removed does nothing but take away your gear indicator. Think of it this way. If the secondary flies aren't there, there's no way that you can open them earlier.

Hope that helped.

Thanx Bawls. This is the deal I have a TRE installed and I still have the flies in also. I have 07' and that was the 1st thing I did. When I bought the bike in 07' I was unaware of the fly removal. But what I want to know is, if what I have now is the same as removing the flies I will leave it the way it is.

I wll pinch hit for Bawls here. NO it is not even close! I debated removing the flies for the largest part of a year, and now I wonder why. It is the only free thing you can do for a 14 that will be even close. Here's a test, next time the bikes warm through and through do this. Flick the throttle open and closed real quick. Listen to what the engine does close. Your wrist is out running the motor. Remove flies and repeat. The bike will equal the twist of the wrist, and you will wonder why you waited.

Another note...the 006 TRE will stop the backfire and disable the gear indicator. so if you dont like the backfire and have pulled your flies this could be an option. The 008 TRE is worthless if you have no flies. Always remap with either

The only reason to not pull the flies and to put the tre in is if you don't have any mechanical ability. Pulling the flies is easy and relatively quick. There is a little bit of bike teardown with the flies removal. There are a few people that have stripped the fly screws. You have to take your time and make sure that the driver is on straight. There are numerous 'tricks' that can be found in many fly threads. (such as heating the driver head). Several people have felt that the backfire was worth the tre purchase. Remember that you lose the gear indicator. No great loss but why do it just for a few pops. It is a personal preferance more than performance. I guess there is one more thing that people have said and that is that the gear power curve changes with the tre. The bikes are 'limited' in the lower gears for rideability but the 5th gear curve has the most 'power'. I can't argue that fact since I didn't try the tre on the 14 but IF it made a large differance I would think that the drag racers would all have the tre. I know that 99% of the time I don't really use the gear indicator but seeing 5th gear all the time would drive me nuts... so again it is personal preferance. I used a tre on a 2002 busa and didn't really notice a differance... but it didn't have the flies restriction. It was more the power gear situation that the tre addressed. So I am going by all of the information that has been on here with the 14. Either way it is a good idea to get a power commander to make sure that the air/fuel mixture is correct. I have heard from numerous people around here that they put on a power commander on the stock bike just to get the most efficient mapping. The 2008+ 14's were lean down low and rich up high. (some think because of the air induction when moving.) so it was a good idea to re map just for the location, weather etc... I hope that this info is helpful to you. We have heard about all of this a lot over the past 3+ years (actually way too much) haha So I hope that I summed it all up here so you don't have to thread dig too much! I promise that if you pull the flies you will have a huge smile on your face at the improvement!

pull the flies man! dont buy a tre, thats the biggest joke of a ripoff. if you can take the plastics off the bike, you can remove the flies. if i can remove them, im sure you can because im nowhere near a mechanic.
