water in the gas tank

Has anyone had troubles with water in there gas tank? I'm not sure yet if that's what happened but the bike started running funny today (sounded like it was sputtering and missing like a fouled plug but intermittant.) Is there something I can add to the tank to get rid of the water or just drain it and see if anywater was in it? It's been raining here in Jax for two days now and I've been riding, that's why I think it's just water. Any and all help is appreciated in advance.

So...what's the best way to drain your tank? with the fuel pump or...?

Removing the fuel tank, then removing the fuel pump is the sure was to get it 100% drained,
but you can try siphoning it out.

I have also heard rubbing alcohol works because it mixes with both water and gas.

+1 on rubbing alcohol as the cheap alternative: or just go to the auto parts store and get any of a long list of fuel additives that can so-called 'dry out' the fuel tank by absorbing the water and dispersing it into the fuel so that it can be burned up evenly without the sputtering or dying of the engine.

However, if that works then you still have a problem: most likely involving the fuel filler area leaking the water into the tank instead of draining it away. Blow out your vent line with compressed air then, that should solve it.

Don't know if I should start a new thread or not, but I don't think it's water in the tank anymore. Cranked it up to see if I got all the water out of the tank and drove it around for about 5 min and it did fine. Then it started the same thing again. sputtering and then a large cloud of white smoke. now just turns over, will not start. I didn't hear any knocking or unusual. parked it in the garage and noticed that it was leaking. Looks like fuel oil mix and smells heavily of fuel. I checked wear it was coming from and seems to be the valve cover gasket in the front.
Does any one have any suggestions? I am guessing now that I have to replace the valve cover gasket. Never done this before but I'm fairly mechanical. any help or advice or does anyone live around the Jax area that could help.

I didn't look at it. However it may cause it to run funny but shouldn't have anything to do with the leaking.

blown head gasket. Sorry to tell you that, but if it smells like a duck and looks like a duck... its a duck.

Blown head gasket sucking water (white smoke) and pressurizing the engine (which blows the valve cover gasket). Of course, thats on the assumption the 14 HAS a head gasket. I recall something about the head and gearbox being one unit or some such thing? Time to wait for smoking or 1bad to chime in with there expert opinion.

I would go with the PC3 ground. Run a wire from the battery ground, or ground lug outside battery box, to the PC3 ground. You can route the wire through the stock zip ties on the fuel rail. Don't cut the PC3 Wire, it will void the warranty. Just a thought

The pcIII ground wouldn't explain the fluid leaking from the engine or the whitish smoke. I wish it were that easy though.

Check the P/C ground please before you do anything else .. I grounded mine to the case cover bolt just below the coolant tank .. You don't have to add to the wire for that location ...Easy fix . . About the other problem give me a call .. I'll PM you my number ..
