Poll Question:
Better tool box/electircs box area

If you were going to have an entra, larger 'tool box', to carry the OEM and perhaps additional tools on the 14, which place do you think would be a better mounting location, say

This one would require an extended swingarm, but seems a great location, and could hold a very good tool set, as well as having a "floor" for electronics

Below, less overall space but still could house a very good tool set, also leaving room under the seat for other stuff

or ?

neither.... get a tiger undertail and put whatever you want under the seat. if theres not enough room, you prob dont need it anyway.

Yes, I've seen the Tiger. My extras area is already taken up under seat, having emptied out the tool box, and gas tank emissions canister.

I have an Scorpio alarm system, Baehr communications and Bazzaz with AFR under the seat.

So I will need a place for a good tool set, as well as a few other electronics.

just a possibility, some of that stuff could go in the battery box, and leave that room under the tail.. just a idea.

with a speed cell battery I bet everything would fit in the battery box. and the trade off in weight would be a big plus.

I carry nothing and work on it during the week before the ride. leave everything home. All I carry is a credit card and a note to my next of kin. Oh, and a cell phone to call a buddy with a truck. If you cant drink or smoke it..or hump it, it's just extra weight. everybody knows there's a huge space as big as a battery...behind the battery unfortunately. I ride with people that like saddle bags and backpacks

+1 The battery box on the 14 is huge and with the speedcell it would be like a trunk.
I still have the stock battery but I modded the tray so that the battery is all the way inside. I relocated my tool pouch to the battery box and put my remote air compressor where the tool box was.
When I get the speedcell battery I think I'll have a little trunk lol

Isn't it a P.I.T.A. to have to take the side apart and access the battery compartment every time you need something?
I subscribe to the - if you can't drink it or hump it, you don't need it theory..
For riding around town or day trips I use a tank bag. For long hauls I have a tail pack. I've managed to go away for two weeks and carrying everything I needed in that pack. Purchased them both from Twisted Throttle.

i was talking about instead of having all his electronics to look good under his seat, put them in the battery box and have extra room under the seat.

Well I left the screws out of my battery cover. The rubber grommets hold strong. I imagine if there were something really heavy put in there then that might be an issue lol.
I love my tank bag too

I added about a 1.25" to my undertail plus I use some of the room on the other side of the battery for my electronics.

Couldn't help but notice that Clean the garage was not on list. Or does it give the wife something to do while you are on a road trip?

I wouldn't let my wife in the garage to clean. I wouldn't be able to find an damn thing and I would probably go insane on somebody!

So if a gadget box were installed in the swingarm gap, and the contents inside were fit down so they did not move about...

what do you all think about the location of the toolbox regarding being on the swingarm.. and the idea of "unsprung weight"? I'd estimate the box and contents (tools and or electrics) would be about 3 lbs, or so.

You just jinxed me I bet. I have been riding street bikes for 20 plus yearsand never had a flat. That's why I never loaded a plug kit,but this will be like driving down the road with a beer on the roof. As long as no one points it out it will never never spill, but as soon as someone does its a gonner. Thanks man.

Well see you're still good! You haven't had a flat yet and now is a really good time to invest in a plug kit
and a way to inflate, and a way have it on the bike at all times. You'll be prepared is all.
No if you continue without any solid backup plan and know you could have prevented it then you are simply living in denial and I can say I told ya so.
