Gauge relocation... getting closer

I have gone from here:

to here:

to here:

I think I am a little closer. I will probably relocate the center boost gauge to in-between the speedo and tach, on a small hinge, covering the two computer buttons.

I think this is the final setup.

Not as exacting or as easy to read as the digital, but go along better with the same look of the dash.

dcjens,

It's not so much you 'have' to look at the things, but that you have the information to look at. It only takes a little time to get the feel that the system, oil, fuel and boost pressure are running stable after the install, or post changes. But if you do have an oil issue, you sure want to know about it 'timely', or if there are other changes otherwise 'unseen', etc. It is simple additive protection for the investment.

that oil pressure seems a little low, even for idle

Yes, I agree. Even with the digital gauge, once the bike is warmed up it shows at 0 at idle. Before I put the oil restrictor in, which was a 1/8" hose opening to the turbo, bike warm the pressure did not really show until about 2000-2500 or so. Harry says that he runs his bike at 1500 RPM idle to get the pressure up a bit, and recommends that.

With the restrictor in, which is 1/64" opening, 16 times less area (?) than the 1/8", the pressure shows earlier than that, and also is higher overall by about 15-20 lbs at higher rpms. The pressure starts to read on the digital about about 1800K - 2K, now when the bike has warmed up.

Harry, of ATP, says the oil pressure is ok (his kit does not come with a restrictor), but I like the better pressure from the restrictor. seems safer. I suspect that the psi is artificially low due to the tap off of the OEM oil sending unit location.

Near as I can tell all has been well, now for about 5K miles on this turbo setup. Harry has many miles on his, with no oil restrictor, he says. I believe an oil restrictor should be a normal, standard part of the kit.

I would like higher pressure, but not sure how to go about that at this point.

What kind of fuel pressure are you seeing in boost?
