Biker, do what you want and have fun. I also dragged back in 1984-1990. Back then it was the thing to do to have the slick and wheelie bar etc.. I think what we see on here and at the strip is that unless you have a pro set up it is 'out' to run the slick etc... The times have changed and I think that is why everyone on here is not agreeing with you. Again, do as you want, but now it is far more common to extend and lower the bike. I think most have shown with the Busa and 14 that you no longer need to come out at 9000. It is hard to leave the comfort zone of what 'we' are used to, but it is reality. I ran a GS1150 and had two rear tires, an adjustable strut, removable baffle, jets removable under carbs withut removing the bowls etc... Took me about 20 minutes to go from streetable to drag. Those days are gone. Now you have to take longer to go back and forth from street to drag. Or not go back and forth at all. I remember the first fast guy at the track running without wheelie bar and slick. He was from Chicago. Everyone thought he was nuts. His last name was Belucci. He could make the pit turns and the return road trips without trouble without the wheelie bar and he was running 8.80s. Pretty soon the 'stock' bikes all were running without the slick etc... It is more impressive and much more 'riding'. I am sure you know this but I thought I would share my experience in the changes just because I also enjoyed the 'old days' at the track. Now with kids and a wife I can't afford to race so it doesn't affect me. If anyone knows, or knew Belucci, they know that he built some incredible bikes. Have fun whatever you do! I also thought this might be interesting to some of the younger riders that werent around for the wheelie bar days. I also know that many on here made the transition from old school to now. They can probably share a lot more about the issue. Peace!

Like I said ,I already had a 14 stretched, slammed, but you cant ride on the street. They are very hard to carve and if you hit a bump you bottom out and break shit.I did all this stuff 3 years ago, now its time for something else.I have several bikes at my track who run with a wheelie bar, strut and slick and Im as fast as them NOW! I want to smoke them in their game.
All FAST pro street bikes have bars and stuts, they run high 6's- low 7's... The best Ive seen out of a setup like everyone else is running now is a high 8- mid 9 here with Arizonas shitty air.
I break my bike down every week and love to wrench on her,so putting a slick, bar and strut is nothing.
Id rather spend a hour in the pits seting up my rocket to smoke everyone then having to replace lower plastic and pans because I hit a simple lil bump in the road...

BINGO!
Funny thing is that the sissy bar on a street bike is frowned upon here, but is accepted on the Busa board and on the ZRX board and probably others.
Wanna build a bracket bike that will make the other racers scream foul? Just add wheelie bars and you will hear "NO BAR BIKES"!! ____________
You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Once again, its all about going fast! No Bracket...
Never seen a stretched ,slammed 14 run faster than 8.8 here in AZ.and that was me 3 years ago!!!
Time for new shit,as the PRO STOCK BIKES RUN!!!

Keep us posted with your progress, because there are guys here getting into the 1.3's and only running mid 8's. You'll need big power and big spray to run the numbers you're wanting to run.

You will definitely have the element of surprise on your side. When most guys see a stock w/b bike with a strut, bar, and slick they will automatically assume that you can't ride.
Obviously that's not the case, but they will assume it...

Man, this is driving me crazy. Help me out here fellas because I just can't remember exactly. There was a guy on here that someone posted his pic at the drag with swb and wheelie bar that was irritated when he caught some grief about it. Basically, he ended up saying that he just liked to pop the bars on for the strip, and then he's got a daily rider for the rest of the time. Sounds just like what biker wants. Anyone remember that?

I want more then just the bars smokehouse.I will strut it as all REAL drag bikes have a strut, to get the power to the ground, wheelie bar,and a 7"slick.Shes already lowered 2" f/r and I strap her for the strip. I really
want to launch her at 9000 rpm on the 2 step, thats my goal.I can launch her now at 6000 rpm with stock wheelbase and hardly keep the front end down. I have a shinko U-Soft at 15 lbs of pressure and she can hardly hold up to that,so thats why I know I would need a 7" slick.
We have a bracket class here @ Speedworld and these guys have wheelie bars and the shock still on. Its a fucking joke watching them poggo up and down, thats why you need the strut. They run high 9's!!...LOL Ones a Busa and the other a GSXR...
I do that now... 9.5. So this way I can run a mid 8 and dial @ a 9.0 and SANDBAG EM

Watch breaking out sandbagging 1/2 second. Guy literally broke his tail bone a few months ago here getting on the brakes. I assume you know that being the experienced rider you are!

Fastest street bike maybe a short street I don't think it could go for a couple hundred mile ride. Rider would very uncomfortable bike would bottom out on bumps slow on turns but its a street bike.

Thats my whole point to doing this shane,at the track its a drag bike and take off the bars and its a street bike.I like to carve up mountain roads and shred through traffic, you cant do that on a slammed ,stretched ZX14...I know, I did this all before with the stretch, useless unless your at the track...PERIOD.I race every weekend, year round, thats why I moved to AZ...LOL

Im going again tomorrow, but I wont do this set up till January.I may make the bar and strut myself...The strut is $80.00 and the bar $300.00 or so. The wheel and slick I havent got a price on, but Im thinking around another G....I have 5 kids I got to buy Christmas presents for.I just bought this bike 2 months ago and already bought over $2k worth of parts and new leathers.
So for now Im LEANING over the tank and lauching as hard as I can....
