CHAIN LIFE????
Hi
I have a stock 2006 14, with 34,000 miles on her. It has the OEM chain. I notice I have to lube it more often and also adjust more. So when do I know when its time for a new chain

34K?? yeehaw! download the manual and find where you can measure a certain distance of links for service limit. 12.7 inches between 1-21 pins with a 20# weight to be exact. replace chain and sprockets together. 34K sounds like it served you well! change it!

The easy way to tell, is when you can pull a chain link more than half way off the rear of a back sprocket tooth, the chains done

34,000? Wow mine only got 32,000 . Usually when a chain is nearing its end it will be a bit noisy and will not hold its adjustment. Sounds like your chain is getting there .

There ya go ! Also a chain is nearing it's end when one end of the chain is tight and one end is loose. That's the worst kind of a worn chain cause the loose side is really worn and is more likely to break than a chain that is worn evenly .

I never got over 24K from an O ring chain. The thing was kinking and popping even with proper maintenance at 24K. With the X ring chain on my 08 ZX-14 I noticed that adjustments were fewer and less severe. Eight or so adjustments later I have 30K plus on my X ring chain and I decided to measure factory specs in three different places. The measurements were within factory specs only stretching 1\16 inch in 30K miles. The only problem now is that I have a minor kink in the chain even though we are within factory specs. I just ordered a DID 530 ZVM2 X Ring chain from Motorcyclesuperstore for $209.99. The chain might be a bit heavier than OEM and it is 120 links, not 116, but I am sure it will work well. I have a chain-breaker and a tool to seat the rivet link, so I think it will go well. I just did not want to push any further because the sprockets were still in good shape.
