Gasoline question / ethanol
Hi Folks.
I've got a quick question to ask about gasoline being that I see how many folks here use canned or race fuel. My question relates to pump fuel specifically.
5 years ago while living in NY, every winter, the fuel companys would come out with the "winter blend" of fuel that contains up to 10% ethanol. This I know was done for emissions and EPA reasons. When ever this switch took place, I always noticed a slight loss of power and a 2+ mpg drop in whatever I drove/rode at the time. There was a good reason to look forward to spring,,,,, the change back to regular gas!
Now though, living in S.Florida, the petroleum companys use an ethanol blend all year around. It's gotten to the point that I have not ever had the chance to ride my bike or drive my truck on anything else, so I currently have nothing to compare it to.
Is there a "canned" fuel available in a octane rating of around 93 or so without the ethanol that doesn't cost $5 a gallon? Also, if my bike was originally mapped with ethanol'd fuel, would it be detrimental to run a "straight" blend?
Inquiring minds want to know !!
Thanks in advance.
