General questions that can help out other ZX14 owners..

What kind of gears are you guys running on your bikes and what is your air pressure?

Also if you guys want to share your information on the feel and performance on lowering your ZX14 I would think this would be a great topic for other riders to base their opinions and be able to ask questions....... :-)

OH yeah... If you are going to lower your bike I strongly believe that you should put a lowered oil pan on it or at a minimum grind the tab off and put a flush mount drain plug like shane did. You can do a search on here and see that there have been a lot of people who have busted their oil pans resulting in crashes or near crashes. Here are some links of sites that are good for all of your zx14 parts buying needs .

shnitzracing.com -Not the best price on shipping, but good selection of parts

osrbikes.com Formerly Clems Kawasaki. Lowered oil pans and anything else you might need. Great customer service

brocksperformance.com IMHO the standard that all pipes should go by. Great customer service, bikeland member discounts, military discounts.

muzzys.com great pipes, decent prices, so-so customer service.

spencercycle.com Extensions, swingarm modification, good prices on SHINKO 003 U-softs.

there are a lot more but i'm out of time for now.

Why 87 octane ? isn't that too low of an octane to run this high hp bike on. Won't it knock or something bad or run lean ?

What would be the best air pressure for the track : 8-30 in the rear, 50 in frt (drag)
what would be the best air pressure for the streets: 30-34 rear ,35 frt for me

What's the best gear ratio for the track: depends on weight, power, ability, traction, distance
what's the best gear ratio for the street; 17/44 or 16/41 IMO

What's the best height performance for the track: as low as possible with out dragging parts or smashing the pan
what's the best height performance for the street : depends on your corner abilities

What would be the best gas to use for long trips; Premium
what would be the best on the track: depends on your tune. as low as possible without detonation
what would be the best gas to race around off the track : as low as possible with out detonation

What's the best overall exhaust for the drag strip: Brocks or tiforce IMO
what's the best overall exhaust for the street: as above

There are simply to many specific conditions to consider alot fo the time.
I like lower tire pressures for the traction, and actually better tire wear too.
However, rough roads need more air to protect the rim. A rim is 10 times as strong with a tire and 30 psi mounted, as it is bare. Thats part reason why I run more in the front, the other reason is I do not like tire squirm under the rim, especially on the front.
41 PSI is totally overkill, unless you ride at the GVWR of the bike., meaning 500 lbs of rider and passenger.

I refuse to run premium because the bike runs much better on 87 and I never ride like an old person. The way I see it... if it's not detonating we're good. I probably ride harder than most though.

I agree, I like 87 octane when it doesn't detonate, but too many times I have had it rattle.
I don't ride like a squid on a 600,.... so mine does see the torque curve and full throttle rolls away from traffic around town at 3-5k

Kawi recommends Premium.
Pump fuel can be inconsistant, and the general public wouldn't know detonation if it occured between their "bawls" LOL

The winter blend at the refineries begins as early as September here, and can last until April.
Thats when they dump excess hydrocarbon waste butane into the lower grade fuels,
Butane is a refining byproduct, without much demand, so they dilute low grade fuel with it.
The specific gravity is low, and so is the unstable flash point.
Even my 9:1 ford detonates on that junk.

So what works in Fla or Tx might damage an engine in Northern states or Canada....

Kawi has the 92 octane guidline for these reasons.

sorry, it might have been 90 octane then, anyway.... the point I am making is my 9:1 ford detonates on low grade fuel here, and the ZX14 went into death rattle too.

What's the best overall exhaust for the drag strip-------Anything from Brocks
what's the best overall exhaust for the street-------------full TiForce Exhaust Systems

I use 93 octane my air fuel ratio is at idling 14.5 and when I'm on it it's at 13.5

I lowered mine in inch all around and have a brock strap up front which I think is the best strap for a zx14

For air pressure on the streets I use 38 upfront and in the rear 35

The best gear ratio for the streets I would say 16/41 and for the quarter mile I would say for my bike 17/44

Lowered in inch with my high-rise exhaust I'm still able to take the curves without bottoming out.

If your bike is tuned using 93, is that what it is going to run the best at, or will 87 or 89 still make it run a little stronger?
