Extensions-Extended Swingarm

What's up fellas just looking for a generalized answer/opinion.

Just curious on how many of you with extended swingarms on your 14s used bolt-ons before investing in an arm. Was it you found the breaking point for the extensions for the application? Or how many just went straight for the arm right off. I'm tossing around the idea of just going ahead and just sending my stock arm to mcintosh to get it done or spencer cycle.

Also does anyone run a penske drag shock?? I seen those and was curious how well they benefit, but for $$800?!?! Wowza!!

I had extensions and switched over to an arm. I wanted the added strength of a welded and braced stock arm, I am very happy with it. It also has a welded bottle mount.

I also have a Penske drag shock which has worked well for me. Previously the oem shock damping was somewhat overwhelmed; that is no longer an issue. The Penske is inexpensive compared to some Ohlins units, which run near $1200.

The arm was done by Spencer Cycles.

I've ran extensions for a few years, no problems. They are good up to 250hp. You can to to 9" with the ones from allthingschrome.net and they cost a lot less than roaring toyz.

If you got the money go ahead and get a arm, extensions are a way to save $600-800... Jmho

I have the ones from All things chrome on my bike now. I figured I go with extensions first rather than buying a stretched arm. If I like it stretched I can go to a full arm if not I can take off the extensions and go back stock.

In my case, here is a breakdown of the costs:

$640 without a welded nitrous bracket, or special brake hanger (not required). If you figure $200 for extensions you are looking at a $440 difference. I saved some money by painting my arm instead of powdercoating it. You could also skip the underbracing, bringing the difference to $275.

If I recall Extensions were around $165.00 Canadien shipped, Chain was about $130.00. I used the existing brake line. All together around $300.00 and I did the work myself.

It depends on which extensions you want to run. I used the ones from Spencer Cycle. Prices vary quite a bit. Just make sure you get a set with a good reputation for quality.

I think extensions are by far the best deal for the primarily street/sometimes strip bike. The biggest drawback is that they do require a little more inspection on a regular basis.

the spencercycle extensions are great quality. they're threaded all the way through and a very tight fit. They're also plain which looks a lot better than the roaring toyz extensions lol.

If you KNOW you want it extended the way shane went would be the best bang for your buck. Or if you could find a used stock arm for sale and get it welded up that way you can keep your factory if you wanted it.

Yeah I mean I'm fairly accustomed to using extensions since I've had them on all my other bikes, but none were near as powerful as the 14. I will probably go with a nitrous setup for this upcoming season so extensions may suffice. Yes I'm somewhat on a "build budget" as most are. Since I still have to find a full exhaust too!!

Now bout that shock..do your 330ft times improve with it? As well as 60ft?

You could check the table of contents at the beginning; it will make it somewhat easier to find the info on the shock and arm. My 60 ft's and 330 ft's improved this year. I would attribute some of that to the shock, since I was able to lower the bike and extend it more while keeping the rear wheel under control.

But I think you can get by with the stock shock for awhile, as long as the bike isn't too long...particularly if you are not too heavy. My extensions were solid to 9.30's, even with me at 230+ suited. I also tested them to 190+ mph at Maxton.

wheelie runs 8's with his extensions and a bunch of us run low 9's. i dont know about the spray, i guess it depends on how much your using. one way to go would be to get some used extensions, and when the time comes to buy the spray, sell the extensions and build your arm. that way you would be out less money.

I just plan to run a 50shot if possible on a decent tune. Muzzy claims a "reliable" 50hp with their spray bar kit. I weigh 170lbs not suited. I don't have a lot of weight to get movin or anything :-). Seems that all the prices of getting a swingarm "built" is about the same no matter where you go.

why not run the dynotune dual bottle kit plumbed into the ram air tubes and filtered through the air filter. Worked well for smokin and is very reliable since the filter help to spread it into the airbox evenly. It's a little softer hit, but it's safe and dependable.

Yeah I've ran a dynotune kit before on my zx10 that I had. It did work somewhat well and was a "streetable" nitrous hit. Bigwil I've remember when those spyder kits first came out, but know of nobody that's used one.

The Adams billet pan requires a Sidewinder exhaust, unfortunately.

Shane did you end up using the 08 pump when you stretched your bike? Ill probably just end up modifying my pan just like you did shane. I got a Dremel tool to do it. Where did you get that flat drain plug at though?
