What would you do?
I currently have a 1417 (2mil over bore) and I'm looking to add more power/torque real soon but I'm kinda at a delimma with which way l should go to get there. I'm looking to either tear it down and add a 4 mil crank or either put a 30 shot on it. I'm in kinda a debate here with myself and I just need some good solid opinions here to help me make a decision on which way u guys think I should go and why.

Would a 4mil and a 30 shot be out of the question?
But seriously, are you trying to meet a certain budget? I'm sure it would be cheaper to spray it, but the big bore the power will always be there!!

Yeah, a 2mil bore along with the 4 mil stroker and spray would be nice but I'm either going to do one or the other. Just trying to weigh the pros and cons of each before I make my decision. Either way, this will be the last engine mod that I will do for this bike.

Spray would be cheaper and the best bang for the buck.
What type of power would you expect with a 4mil stroker ?

if your 1417 is setup tight to make max hp the spray maybe a little dangerous. as everyone that has used nitrous will tell you it's addictive and the shot will keep getting bigger

INTIMIDA2OR, I was told by my builder that a 4 mil stroke would give me maybe 15 to 18 more HP but much more torque. I currently make 210 at the wheel.

06redzx14, are you saying that the spray would be dangerous, literally or just because it's addictive. 30 shot is as far as I want to go. That on top of the 210 HP that I currently make will be plenty.

I would have the crank done and have the top end set up for spray, but small shot.

what are you wishing to do with the bike? 30 is safe for blasts at the drag strip not long hits on the interstate. I'm debating on doing a 2 mil build or stock bore. I'm using a spray bar and a 40 shot at the moment. who built your motor?

Go with the crank I wish I would have I have a 30 shot on a stock motor and run 8.60s i am 185lbs in full leathers its just my personal opinion but nitrous is a pain in the ass you have to get the bottles filled every time you go to the track and then when you run out you go slower which we all know sucks. I plan on going with a built motor and keep the spray for shits or go with a turbo.

Sounds like the crank is a much better upgrade I would think wile your there to upgrade the bearings

Keep in mind that you will not get anywhere near 30 hp from just adding a 4mm crank to your current setup. Plus, you will be increasing piston speed...meaning higher strain at all times...unless you keep the revs down. If you don't already have aftermarket rods, you will probably want to consider them with the stroker crank.

I say take the 1500 supercharged motor out of their wave runner & transplant it in your frame (260hp now!)

That's kinda my take on it . I mean that stroker isn't really that significant unless used with other upgrades which includes head work. Now if it increased the cc's to like 1500 then hell yes that's very significant. If I were to just do 1 upgrade for power it would either be head work to improve flow , or that bitchin shortcut to power ... Spray!

tgleason I can understand your point as far as a stock motor goes, I would probably feel the same way but I'm making 210 at the rear, so it'll never go slow and I want to possibly add a 30 shot to it and use it occasionally when I need it, Hahaha!

Shane661, this is the kind of info that I was really looking to hear, the pros and more importantly the cons. What you are saying here is what's really important. I don't want to just hear how great the bike will run after this mod or that mod, I also want to hear what the negatives are. That's really what Im basing my decision on. I appreciate that Shane! I have stock rods in my bike. That should be ok with a 30 shot shouldn't it?
