My night at the drags....
I make as many trips to the track as I can, and most of the time it's the same...making the best pass off the trailer, trying all night to best it, cusing cause I can't blah blah.... Well, last night was a little more interesting. We had a packed house lastnight because ORP in Indy was closed for some reason, so everybody showed at Muncie.
We had Hennessey vettes, pro charged cars, bikes, bracket cars and a couple Pro mods. So the night is going good until some ricer oiled the track from start to finish. He broke on the line and rolled the length of the track spilling precious 2 dollar a quart wal mart oil all the way down.....soooo a hour later it's all cleaned up and back to racing, well here is where it get's good. For one of the pro mod cars it was it's first outing. Brand new car,motor,driver...everything. Now this is a 170 thousand dollar car with 3085 hp on tap. They pull the car up in the lane between the bikes and the cars. They get ready to fire it and the track owner comes out and says "let's pull it up towards the line," well they pull it up but instead of lining it up down the track they angle it with the assend facing the bike. Now you would think a 170 thousand dollar car would have some decent crew guys......but no. The guy spraying gas into the hat was to afraid to do it so the track owner "who has a pro mod of his own" came over and got the car fired. It's idiling fine until the guy tries to put it in gear, then you hear a small grind. All of a sudden it slams in reverse and starting going out of control. I never seen a brake light come on, nothing. Now the car is about 30 feet from the bikes, so by the time the wheelie bars starts cutting thru bikes like a guillotine it's going about 25 mph...3 busa's and 3 14's got smashed to hell. There was a guy walking thru the bikes when it happened. Somehow he popped out above the bikes and fell to the side. I grabbed him and threw him out of the way while the car was still moving. I checked on him for a split second then turned around to see where my bike was. I walked over and was kinda amazed..not a scratch. The bike in front of me got turned sideways and was hit so hard it bent the kickstand over and stopped a inch away from touching my bike. The pile up literally stopped at that point. We'll when all was said and done, the guy who got hit was ok but taken to the hospital to be checked out, 6 bikes are totalled, prob 15 thous damage to the pro mod. I guess the guy freaked when it ground going into gear and snatched the lever back throwing it into reverse. Why he never touched a brake nobody knows....I don't even think he knows. So next time your at the track and bored just remember it could be worse....you could have a pro mod parked on your bike.

That suck but it happens .. Back in 85 with my brand new Vmax i had a guy run over my Vmax along with 5 other bikes in the staging lanes ... I made him pay for my bike repairs .. I saw it coming and tried to stop him but he kept coming ... I got him stopped by hitting him in the head with a full 12 oz coke can...

He had a guy take down all the names of people that had damage. He never even apologized to anybody for what happened. I found out he is a lawyer out of Indy so we will see what happens. The police told everybody tuff shit you signed a waiver.

Of course they don't. If they knew anything they would have a respectable job.

I don't think many race cars have liability insurance.
It's going to be a long hard road to get anything, just like any other race events.
Over the years I've seen lots of accidents at the track and never heard anyone paid for the other car, but you can sue anyone for anything. Good luck.

When I was hit, I sold the bike for payoff (luckily) and had to bit the bulled and start over on payments. Now its scarey to ride just mentally knowing you owe so much on a bike and it could happen again.
