Which tire is best for drag racing?
I am buying a race takeoff tire, and there are a couple choices. There is a really good pilot power street tire for $50 mounted, or $80 for a pirelli slick (also $80 mounted). They are both 180/55. My question is, will the pp be able to get traction on a bike that is 63-65 inches?
Thanks,
Jorgen

I'm buying a power race from ninjaboy. I've seen them on a lot of the turbo'd bikes. I went to chris jones shop monday and if the bikes didn't have a shinko they had a power race. Ninjaboy has one of the power races left at a great deal!!

Yes, my bike is going full race. I don't plan on riding it on the street anymore.

Come on guys, 600hp pro street bikes are now running power one street tires. Trust me this is the tire for most miles and great hook. I run one on my turbo busa and it dead hooks every time on the street, 003 shinko spun like on ice.

Come on Duncan, we all know that the Shinko is a good tire for drag racing. 1.35 sixty foot on a 63 inch turbo bike, and as quick as 7.76@192, I would say that the Shinko is a good drag racing tire. Set up is everything! Alot of factors come into play when you talk about tire spin, such as clutch set up, suspension, chassis geometry, riders clutch release technique, track prep, etc. Its not always the tire. Now if you have the power of a turbo pro-street bike I would highly suggest the new Michelin. It is the only way to go. The only other option is the Mickey Thompson. But, the Mickey has a vey short life span. Until a few months ago the Mickey was the only option available if you had the power of a pro-steet bike. The new michelin changed that all, and it last a whole lot longer. I have one on a high horsepower zx14 with about eleven passes and it still looks new. And it performs flawlessly.

Would not put a 'Pilot' street tire to drag race. If you go with the Michelin, make sure it says Power Race, or Power One. These are the 2 styles of Michelins that are being used for drag racing.

You can get a brand new Shinko U-Soft 180/55 for $115 shipped:
http://www.spencercycle.com/product_p/87-4007.htm
Great track tire, cheap, and you'll get a lot of passes from it.
If you want to spend more money, get the Michelin Power Race or Power One. Very nice tire, but double the price.

Yeah...but there are not a ton of Michelins out there at that price. I'm speaking in general terms, that anyone might be able take the advice.
Ninjaboys tire is a good deal if close to the price of the Shinko, certainly.

I never said the shinko was not a good tire, it's just not nearly as good as a power one. Also have you ever weighed a shinko...HEAVY! The only thing a shinko has going for it is the cost.

Well I ended up getting the pirelli MOUNTED for $80. It's practically brand new. I'll take a pic of it later.

How was the life of the tire?
It was a road race take off I got from a friend. I used it for a short while then took it off and gave it away. The new owner is still using it on a GSXR 1K almost 2 years latter so it must last pretty long.
