When we crash we make sure the bikes are completely demolished for insurance payoff purposes. That way when the adjuster comes out he just looks at the machine and writes a check on the spot

Yup she has 52,000 on her clock .She's been to the other side and back lol! I could never stop riding I'd miss it too much. The simple pleasures alone like taking the long way to the store or to work, and just riding any place is good . I'd miss being able to over power anything on the road including the road itself!
Here's to all the future rides we take

Well written, I totally understand and admire the same position. I have really really missed my zx14, although I have had other bikes to ride, none are the same as the 14.
The best pavement rides, experiences and adrenaline rushes I have experienced, were on the 14.
30 yrs riding now, and 20 of that on streetbikes, so that shows how fond I am of the zx14.

If I couldn't have any family or friends, the next best thing would be my bikes, sometimes thats a toss up too ! LOL

Life is incomplete without a bike, and if it doesn't stir the soul, then its time to trade up, or start building a pine box.

YES!! You Both nailed it.................. the old saying don't see any bikes parked in front of a Shrink's Office...... If I have to Explain they don't get it.

And if there was a motorcycle parked in front of a shrinks office i think it's probably either thre shrinks bike or the shrinks booty call

LMAO that's right. I have to agree and laugh at this one.

Toolman, I wish we could perform miracles. Thanks for the offer, but I think mine is beyond fixing. I wouldlove to take the ZX engine and put it on a gokart frame though. LOL.

I think that if I didn't get back on and ride again, I would miss out for the rest of my life. You guys are definitely right about not quiting.

BigBadZX14, it's got to be your choice if you get back on the bike. Most of us who have had accidents and got back on are lucky that we were able to do so, many were not so lucky. I've had one or two myself and the thing I learned is that there are days when I'm just not so sharp, for all sorts of reasons and on those occasions I ride carefully and concentrate harder. It doesn't last though and I soon get back into the right frame of mind again. Good luck, I think you will ride again.

Flyboy, it's interesting what you said about getting off the bike when a head-on is inevitable. Anyone who's seen the accident coming normally experiences that adrenalin boost which slows real-time down. It's amazing how the brain is able to compute all the possibilities in a split second - and there does come a point when you say to hell with the bike and self-preservation kicks in. Been there, done that.

Unfortunantely I didn't have a chance to be able to think what to do. I had just enough time to think oh shit this is gonna hurt, and just start to swerve away but it happened so freaking fast. I think that If I was conscious I would have gotten up and punched the driver right in the face.

Well I'm feeling a hell of alot better physically wise. I'm still not 100% yet, time will tell. There is 70% of me telling me to get a new bike and ride again, and there is 30% saying do you want to go through the same thing or worse again?? So time will tell, and the more people tell me not to get another bike, it's pushing me more towards to want to get back on and ride. Well you all ride safe and time will hopefully mend my wounds. Tear up the blacktop!!

Glad to see you're recovering good. Take it easy Bud, do what you want to do, only when you feel you're ready for it.
Hugs,
David

BigBad, Many have been where your at. You'll get past this part and maybe decide then. Ive been riding 30+ years myself and riding is dangerous period. but if you look at the positives, few things compare it. Do the things that are at the top of your list today...you're above dirt still..right? I've noticed most of my fun is under 100mph since I had my bell rang. I was lucky and learned a few things about me and my bike. I always always wear full leather and a full face helmet. 110 deg summer is still cooler than road rash quick recovery Bud
Intimida2or.. damn dude you need to get into badmitton or something! and 50K too?? that must be a record for the 14. Do you ride in your sleep too?

"I've noticed most of my fun is under 100mph since I had my bell rang" Been my feeling for awhile: Only time I even bother blasting down a straightaway is when I want that particular rush: canyon carving I just cruise on down the straights until I get to the next corner. Benefit of being on a ZX14 is that normally the other guys know better than to try and instigate me or egg me into going faster: they know the 14 will win any high speed contest if I choose it!

Bigbad-You have 2 parts of life(IMHO)- Chosen destiny(your choices directs your destiny) and un-chosen destiny(some how you find yourself in a situation that you had no control of).

Personally, I concentrate on what I can control. This is one of those times that you will direct your will to ride or not. Have confidence that you will make the right decision and pick either or with no/minimum regrets. Good luck and I hope your recovery is speedy.

Also- Whatever decision you make, stand strong, keep to your word, and roll on! If you decide to ride, let the people with questions know that your time of expiration will come at anytime. Motorcycle riding is enjoyment and will only be your cause of death if that's what destined for you. There are thousands of people that have ridden for years and died from something else.
Good Luck!

Thanks Guys.

Kikon14 that's some bad damage to your bike. But it's better that you made it out and walked away. Nice pic of your bike redone, the flames are sweet looking and touch of the bike sweet.

Superman T I think that you are right about the destiny's. And someday I will make that final choice.

It is a hard thing to go through but you have to figure out the pro's and con's. I tell people that question me that there is risk in everything and there is no feeling like riding a motorcycle. I take the risk based upon the 'joy' I have while riding. Let's have people post up their photos of surviving a plane crash. We wouldn't have many. When the accident happens, most people would choose to have made a different choice for the day.... but when the accident doesn't happen we enjoy it. The pro's for me in riding is worth the risk. If you can't say that anymore then that makes your decision easier. All of us stand by you whatever you decide. It isn't fun to ride if you are uncomfortable or uneasy... because that is the great thing about riding is that it takes you away from the stresses of life. I hope that you have a speedy recovery and that you have peace whatever you decide.

Thanks BigBad, I'm planning to buy new OEM fairings (the ones on the bike are the Taiwanese ones, and they are WAY too fragile) and paint them as it looks now.
In regards of the choice, Bud...don't rush to get there, take it easy and enjoy your Family. If your destiny is to ride again, you will know when the time comes.
Hugs,
David
