This is/was my buddy's Gk1 after he crashed badly. He went 300 ft and the bike went 450ft into a field. He somehow survived and with a cast on his foot, he went for a ride once he got out of the hospital. He tried to get back into street riding but couldn't shake the spooks so he took up dirtbikes and has been tearing it up for the last 4 years. He's the worst I'v ever known and the only one that didn't get another street bike. Another friend crashed almost as bad and she got another 1000 and kept rideing. It just comes down to how do you feel when you get back on a bike

This is his foot that I photoshoped for him

I jump like 5 ft in the air and completely over the road!! (It is no longer there, they took out the bridge and access rd.)
Into..... the pedestian fence.. 6 spinal factures, 5 broken ribs, 2 brusied kidneys, 1 punctured lung and chest tube (NOT FUN) and 6 weeks of hospital bed with spinal fusion surgery to boot
Still ride...always will

Two weeks ago, I stopped at a red light. The car behind me didn't. The last I saw of my bike was looking at the car behind me in the rear view mirrors. It didn't slow down. No time to unload the clutch. I saw sky. That's the last I saw of my ZX14. Fortunately, an officer was next to me at the red light. He was with me in seconds and got me the best help possible.
Broken back. Oxycodone. Tomorrow, I trade my title for a check from their insurance company.
I'd get another bike, but if I could manage to get on it, I'd likely fall over. I never knew a back helped balance so much.

Ouch! That's one of my worst nightmares . I am always on the look out for that rear ender.
I think yours is one of the worst kind of these stories cause you would ride but you can't!
There's a woman rider that rode with my group that had a gsxr 600 . One night she was lane splitting , got to the front and was approaching a break in the center island which was a no turn lane but one of those reserved for emergency vehicles. A car made a left in front of her and the bike was broken 2 pieces , she went flying over the car and some how hyperextended her left sholder. She lost use of that arm and had to be amputated. She also tore muscles in both eyes leving her crosseyed. The driver in the car sped awayt and was never caught.
Last I heard of her she misses riding so bad but has to leave that life behind and wants nothing to td with all the friends she made . Her life was completely changed .

Im have to say, since becoming a father I have became much more aware of what I do, when and where I do it.
I ride with experienced riders who anticipate and leave room for manouvers, I ride on empty streets or on the highways, and I avoid congested roads, or area's of town where certain groups of poor drivers are known to exist.
I try to eliminate all risk, and when I am around other traffic, survival becomes priority, not a good time.
I also learned years ago, left hand intersections are the most deadly, and I always leave a way around the car in front of me incase the one behind decides to make me the middle of the sandwich. When at intersections, If I can't see their eye's they can't see me.
At times this is not a fun way to ride, but is allows me the best chance of surviving till I can get to a road where I can actually enjoy the bike, the scenery, and the weather.
If I was really uncomfortable, I would restrict my riding to offroad as i did 20 years ago, after realising I did not have the self control, or maturity to own a streetbike.

Bigbore that will buff out.
I had a major off in 1994, destroyed the fairing but otherwise the bike wasn't too bad. I went off a curve in the road at just over 200km/h. Sadly I couldn't ride that bike again. Up until a few years ago I was still having problems with going smoothly around corners at any speed. I did a few track days, starting in the novice groups to get the best instruction and that helped no end.
Three years ago I lost a really good mate in a bike accident, he left behind his wife and two young children, because of it a few of my friends sold their bikes. I prefer to think that my mate would rather have me remember him by continuing to ride.
Get back on that horse. Keep riding, we are unique people because we ride bikes, it brings us all together, you can be riding in the middle of nowhere and come across someone else on a bike you will always have something to talk about...

Actually the track is the best place to crash, there are usually medic's on site, no oncoming traffic, etc etc.
Street riding is getting more and more dangerous every day.

I think if ever I was about to be in a head-on or near head-on collision I would ( providing I had enough reaction time) push off with my feet to get high in the air as possible, and fly hands and head first over the oncoming vehicle and take my chances hitting the ground. I always ride with a full suit and boots. I believe 95% of the time it would be a car coming at you which has a lower clearance.
Has anyone ever done this or know of someone who has done this? Of course most accidents don't give one time to think.
If I remember correctly, pelvis and thigh bones are the most common injury from a head on as the bars and top yoke cause some serious damage. What you are sugesting is in the New Zealand Motorcycle road code as a best course of action to minimize injury (in the event of a little one on one time with a car)

Thanks Reaper, You are right about unique people. You can have trouble with you bike along side a road, and who stops?, another motorcyclist, not a person driving a car.
Thanks Reggie, your right about the scars and chicks.
Lab3, My pride was absolutely more hurt then my body. While laying in the hosptial I questioned myself hundreds of times of did I do something wrong, could I have done something different to avoid the accident. But yet again why should I put myself through this mental anguish of questioning my ability to ride when it was the other persons stupidity.

Well here is my wreck. The swingarm is bent, the frame has 2 big holes in it up by the gas tank, the motor mounts got ripped off putting 2 big holes in the motor. The frame is bent down and the front of the frame is pushed up and back caving in the gas tank where my balls rested, forks are barely being held on, plus alot more, so why keep on explaining. The bike did take alot of the impact which is good for me.

Those are incredible pictures. I never saw a tank crushed like that. The ZX14 seems like the best bike to take a hit and survive.
If I was rear ended on any other bike, I'd likely be dead. Mine took a lot of energy from the impact. Rear tire and subframe crumpled. Having a full tank of gas may helped slowed the mass from the offending car down too.

Yes the 14 crashes well and comes back for more. I should know lol! 4 times ,2 were the worst , one took a front and rear hit which bent the forks and subframe ,the other bad one was a tumble in the dirt that took out every thing that could be seen

Not really a good picture, but just about everything on the bike from back to front was broken, torn, or scratched from its 138 foot unmanned adventure when it was rear ended at a red light. The officers say I was thrown 38 feet from the light. Frm what I saw in my rear view mirrors, I'd say she was doing at least the 35mph speed limit.

crazy pics fellas, I never took pictures of my crashes. I always took pics of the "after" though! Too me its like finding out your new baby has a penius hanging off her nose: you put the camera down and go "hey doc, can you just nip that thing right off since the scalpel is still in your hand? Thanks! Couple bandaids... perfect! Now I can take pics."

Thanks guys. Intimida2or looks like a bad spill. You have 52,000 miles on that?? , holyshit. LOL. Good job on dedication of riding. I hope to be there one day.
Dattaway2, it looks like that swing arm is stuffed up under the seat. Looks pretty bad.
Glad to see you guys are still alive and willing to and gonna ride again.
Sticks, I had to take pics due to insurance reasons and other red tape, but I probably would have taken them anyway even if I didn't have to take them for that.
Ride on guys.

Yup she has 52,000 on her clock .She's been to the other side and back lol! I could never stop riding I'd miss it too much. The simple pleasures alone like taking the long way to the store or to work, and just riding any place is good . I'd miss being able to over power anything on the road including the road itself!

Well written, I totally understand and admire the same position. I have really really missed my zx14, although I have had other bikes to ride, none are the same as the 14.
The best pavement rides, experiences and adrenaline rushes I have experienced, were on the 14.
30 yrs riding now, and 20 of that on streetbikes, so that shows how fond I am of the zx14.
If I couldn't have any family or friends, the next best thing would be my bikes, sometimes thats a toss up too ! LOL
