10.69 you guessed. Being able to watch myself compared to others on Youtube I think you are pretty close. I do think that over the course of 8 runs I can do better....I hope

Maybe chock up on the throttle and drop your arm to twist, and not your wrist

Any chance to get something like "The Complete Idiot's Guide to launch a ZX14"? I would like to have the Experts opinion about everything involved in a launch (RPM's, clutch-throttle, position, etc., etc.). In my particular case Weight 195, 5'10", bone stock bike (flies in, no PCIII, stock height, etc.).
Thanks in advance & Hugs All,
David

P.S.: Rich.....remember Bud, 10.69 NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!.......re-guessed 10.44

David, I practiced for a couple hours this morning just for you. No video as my wife had to take the kids to school but much better. I followed Wheelies advice and the perfect launch RPM right now seems to be 6500. I set the clutch so it is almost engaged and hold the rpm's at 6500. At the launch I got 3/4 throttle and let the clutch out 3/4 as fast as possible as the same time. This got the front end up an inch or so immediately but also slammed my butt against the back of the seat. From there I just roll on the throttle and slide the clutch. Once the clutch is out I pick my feet up and pull myself back to the front of the seat. From there I just keep rolling on the throttle to try to keep the front wheel off the ground an inch or so (easier said then done). Once I hit second I slide back in the seat and tuck (thanks Nooby)! I also worked on my shifting and got it a little better.

Overall I would say my launch is 20% better then it was last night. PRAY FOR NO RAIN as there is a 40% chance at 6:00pm. At the very least I should be able to get a few runs in. I will be leaving here at 3:00.

Thanks for the tips Rich, I have a question though. I've never shifted without clutch, how do you do that (RPM's?.....).
I know that I must buy the books of Twist of the Wrist, but still though I would like to have a few directives or advices in this regard so I can start practicing....without messing my gear box.
Hugs, and yes....I'm praying so no rain and 10.44 tomorrow.
David

P.S.: Any chance for you to get any leather pants for tomorrow?, my best advise (based in my own experience....last February) is for you to be 100% safe....just in case ya'know.

David, I am green as green gets but that is what is working for me right now. I hear you on the leather pants but I don't want to miss this event (it is tonight). As for clutchless shifting, just put a little pressure on the shifter and let of on the throttle a little and it will shift all by itself. After a few times you will see it is much easier then using the clutch when giving it a lot of throttle.

+1 on clutchless shifts, and if you use your clutch at wot, you will burn it up QUICK.

Thanks Rich & Eklipse, question here....it will burn even though I let go the throttle while clutching (very fast...btw)? Normally I try to shift gears at 11.500RPM's (aprox.).......or once it "reminds" me to do so Yeah I know......I'm still in the learning process...bear w/me.
Hugs,
David

Like I said earlier David, try shifting without the clutch and you will NEVER go back. Why use it if you don't have to? At slow speeds and normal driving I still use th cclutch but if I give 'er at all I don't.

Not to high jack the thread but, here is another tip. I launch with my pointer finger and thumb around the bar and the other 3 on the clutch lever. I let it out until I fell it starting to grab and stay right there. This helps you hold your weight up and not slide back so much. I used to lauch using all 4 fingers but found myself sliding back on the seat and pulling the bars to the right...which put me out of the groove. I was wondering, how do you guys launch?

Oh and rich, get that right elbow up a little. It's a smooth wrist/elbow drop as you let out the clutch...
