Launch video-HELP!! Ok guys, took a video of me launching today on a closed road near my house. It is perfect because it is nice and smooth plus bridge is out a couple hundred yards behind me. Anyway, not my best work as I left a bit lower rpm then usual and she bogged a bit but any suggestions would be appreciated before tomorrow. My 1-2 shift was pretty pathetic but the others are about normal for me. Stock wheel base and height.

looks fine, just start off with 500 more rpm, work your way up the rpm 500 at a time till you wheelie and have to let off, the drop 500 rpm. front wheel should float a little on a good start

I launched at about 5000rpm that time and my best have been just over 6000rpm but for whatever reason I let her go early. I tried getting further over the tank but my belly gets in the way and it is to hard to get my feet up for some reason. Watching you guys I know that is something I need to work on. Thanks for the comments bud, keep them coming.

Will do! I was trying to get as tight against the tank as possible but I can't lean over like that.

getting use to the clutch takes a few runs, really it looks like you just need to make allot of runs and you will get .

One question, is it better to pin the throttle and control wheelies with the clutch or get the clutch out as soon as possible and control the wheelies with the throttle. The wheelies I am talking about are towards the end of 1st gear.

lol letting the clutch out to soon gets a bog even at wot. really it a combination of the 2, getting wot as the clutch is all the way out, its like a string is attached to both, when the throttle moves so does the clutch equally, does that make any sense?

Yes, I mean later in 1st when the clutch is out all the way. Right now I just keep rolling on the throttle and hit WOT at the end of 1st. If I get to WOT early, the front end comes up fast. I think you were talking about the launch, where as I am talking about around 8000-9000rpm.

Opinions vary on that question. I pin the throttle and let the clutch out as fast as possible but do use the clutch as a tool to control wheelies. Sounds like you are using the clutch to shift to. If so just let out of the throttle a hair and shift without the clutch. Once you get going tuck in tight and put your ass way back. If you are tucked in tight you should not hear any air hitting your helmet at all and when you put your butt way back it allows the air to not your back either. Good Luck!!!!

No clutch in shifting, I am just letting off the throttle too much I should be able to slide back farther and tuck once I hit second gear. I don;t have to worry about wheelies in 2nd. Would that work?

Perfect, as soon as you hit second gear slide back and tuck in. With a good clutchless shift you should probably chirp your tire in second gear on the street. Don't sweat all this crap everyone is feeding you though. Once you get up to the line you will forget it all. Focus on 60ft times and your 1-2 shift , the rest is a breeze........fine tune all the other techniques once you are comfortable launching. If not you are going to freak yourself out worrying about doing everything perfect your first time down the track.

Probably, A guy at my local track last night was on a bone stock busa and was running 10.40's with a 2.200 60ft at 141 mph. You will certainly break 11's. Please keep us posted

You will be fine. I know we can stand back and say don't stress, but I remember it was very nerveracking learning it all (I'm still learning) just do as you have praticed on the street and keep us posted!

All right Rich, I'm gonna chime in here. I am certainly no wheelie or nooby, but it wasn't THAT long ago that I was out there for the first time and I remember what you are feeling distinctly. I had launched a Blackbird hundreds of times at street lights, and had practiced in a vacant parking lot and a country road with the 14. Just a few items that might help. Remember that the surface is different and you will have to account for that. Your heart will be pounding so you've got to be calm and smooth. I am going to assume you know how to work the lights, but after you trip the first lights, set your rpm where you want it, then push to trip the 2nd set. When you launch, you want to lurch forward and keep the rpms up as you quickly roll to WOT and you smooth the clutch out. Easier said than done, of course. And more tricky with swb, and even more tricky with added "go fast" and still at swb.

By the way, here's a clip that most have seen and is actually a little embarrassing. It was my first time off of the line with tires other than the shit 014's that it comes with, so I didn't know how it was going to react. I only had the revs at 4g when I usually launch at 6g. When I lurched forward, it wheelied about a foot and a half AND it lugged down terribly. However, because I was able to get the clutch out and WOT by about 70ft, I was still able to run a 10.2.

Thanks for the vid and suggestions I will keep all this info in mind tomorrow. Track is open 4:00-10:00pm so I will not be able to get the vids up until Saturday morning. I will post the vids and slips then. I have not been this excited since prom night.
