zx14 wheelie bar

I was wondering, have you ever seen someone use this? Lots of bikes I race against use these, but I've never seen a modern bike with a wheelie bar. Couldn't you just put a 2 step on it and go? I bet that's the quickest and cheapest route to 8s. It sure would look funny though......

Not that easy my friend .. You need to put a soild strut in place of the shock ..You will need a slider clutch . Get a M/T slick.. Then you can add your two step ... While you are at it get better clutch basket ... You might go 8s but you will never drive it as a street bike again ..

I'm sorry if I offend anyone here but when I see a wheelie bar on a street bike I laugh my ass off. especailly when they end up running low 10s or high 9's.

Wow, I am famous... though you may want to get permission before using copyrighted photos, Peter works his ass off and deserves to get paid too. Paypal him $25 or remove the photo, I believe you have his web address...

Yes, I have owned numerous bikes, most recently 2006/7/8/9 ZX14 and an 08 ZG14. I dont like the look of or the way a stretched bike feels so I run the bars. They take about 20 minutes to install using my lift at home, I run an 008 slick on an extra wheel with 17/43 gearing on stock motor, with a CO2 shifter and I got 631 passes off the 2009 OEM clutch and replaced it with OEM fiber and steel. That bar is the third that I have owned since 06, not the same one as last year, although I did use the same paint on it....

I have a season pass at GLD and get to run a lot, which I do for FUN, at 6'3" and 255lb suited so I have no illusions of going pro. I also seriously doubt that 15 years in the USMC qualifies me as a "VAG", "nooby". I proved all I needed to long ago. But if that is how you feel, whoopideedo, I am flattered that you have an opinion of me as it makes it easier to have one of you.

I dont care if I impress anyone or not. I think stretched bikes and harleys look wierd, so I could care less or hardly be offended by how they feel about what I happen to be driving for the season. I also dont get the whole wave at everyone thing either, but that is a different conversation.

The bars are fun, at least I think so, and 30min after leaving the track I am driving down the road on stock wheelbase with street tire and shock. Most days the bike was driven to work the next day and back out to the track with the strip configuration reinstalled afterward.

The r008 is a much better choice over the 27.5" M/T slick that changes gearing and then swells too much and rubs the stock swingarm, a slider clutch would be nice but would suck on the street. Heavy springs and OEM basket, steels and fibers are doing fine. It can launch at 7800rpm without issue 50x per evening, change oil and do it the next day all summer long.

Sure the bars take some of the excitement out, and dont require any real skill... I always thought it is just as complicated as a long wheelbase bike to launch, just different math problem. But what would I know? I have been riding for 34 years, I am not planning on accomodating anyones idea of what I 'should' be doing at this point, I keep to myself and expect others to do the same. Actually, I am a pretty nice guy and I am sure you all are too, but if I have to take off the bars to join the club I suppose I would rather just stay in the ProTree lane and not short staging.

...and it is embarrassing with 2 r's.

What did you do in the marines? As a fellow military member I know all too well that there are a plethera of pussies in every branch. We've all seen them sitting around running their mouth trying to act tough while they hide behind the UCMJ. Sissy sticks are what they are. If you're able to go as fast as the people who are lowered and stretched then good on you, but i've never seen a fast bar bike that wasn't an all out drag bike. As long as you're having fun, I guess that's all that matters

I do agree on the Pro tree though. There are two things that should be mandatory at the track... Pro tree and Heads up racing!

TDog,

Everyone races for different reasons. Some people focus on their technique, some on the setup, some on just having fun. I think the guys just see a basically stock bike, with mirrors and all...with a wheelie bar. I'm sure you've gotten some ribbing about it before....I wouldn't take it too hard. Hell, I would even give my best track buddies a hard time if they showed up with a similar setup, but all in fun. Some people refer to long bikes as "hill climbers"...it's all the same.

If I may ask, what is your focus? For me, the fun aspect of just going fast doesn't hold my attention for long. I find myself focusing more on the technique and/or setup. In fact, if I know my 60 ft. was bad, I am anxious to get down the track and get the run over with.

In other words, for me the speed gets kind of boring quickly. If you do 50 passes on your bar bike, what makes you want to do a 51st? Is it the thrill, competition, or what?

Shane

Tdoggg just because you were a marine dosent make you better than anyone... So you say yout too good to wayve at other fellow bikers??? You must be a REALLY weird fella. Not much to say to someone that has their nose stuck up their own ass.

P.S. You don't have to take the bars off to join the club, just leave the chip that's on your shoulder wherever you came from.

Just like some people don't understand your wheelie bar thing, right?

Everyone else must have a problem, huh?

I say, just do your thing and don't take it, or yourself, too seriously!

One other question...why a new bike and bars almost every year??

15 years in the Marines means one of two things: he was thrown out (Don't ask Don't tell issue?) or he couldnt make it past E4 and ran out of time in grade. Seeing as how he is odd enough to run a wheelie bar on a basically stock bike, thinks waving at other riders to show a shared comraderie is odd, and has to throw out that he spent ALMOST enough time in the Marines to retire when it is completely unpertinent to the conversation tells me he was one of those dirt bags that never could or never wanted to advance in rank. Think "lifetime janitor" mentality.

F* the marines. "Fly Navy!" - though dont get me wrong, I do appreciate you guys being around to guard our stuff for us when we are furlough out in the foreign ports. :

Tdog.....the only reason people run wheelie bars on a streetbike is because they are scared of looping out. My buddy flipped his 14 backwards and now has bars on it. I always rag him too. Don't be so touchy but FYI wheelie bars do look funny on stock streetbike.

Ok i have ask .. wheely bars and a strap ? If you have wheely bars to stop wheelys, why a strap on the front end ?

I don't care if you have wheely bars , it's fine with me ... Not everyone was the skills to ride without them .. I myself like the challenge of going fast without them .. We see very few bikes with bars anymore, it kind of a toss back to the old days .... But i'm sure like eveything old it may make a comeback one day .. At least you are racing unlike the 3000 that come to bike night and tell us how fast they are while never once gone to the track ..

I'd rather have a wheelie bar for occasional racing than a stretched swing arm. No one around here and I mean no one uses a stretched swing arm on the streets. I don't think I've ever seen any lowered bikes either. Too many good rural roads to hit the curves I guess. A stretched/lowered bike would be useless for that. Most people that drag race occasionally put up with wheelie problems I suppose. That dog guy doesn't seem to be on the site any longer can't handle the heat.
