GPR V4 v.s. Muzzy/Brocks Ohlins Stabilizer
Hi,
I've been reading what I can on the internet about both types of stabilizers. I'm find it tough to make a decision. Is there any benefit to eith type. I like the Ohlins old school type as I like the way it looks and the way it functions on the bike. However the newer GPR V4 type looks modern and my have newer technology on it's side.
I'd appreciate input from people who have experience with both!
Also...I do believe you need to drill the frame to mount the GPR V4 where the Ohlins style just bolts on.
Please and thanks,

I have a Muzzy/Ohlins. I was very close to getting a GPR. They do have a rep for leaking. In fact, the first one I saw at the track, I asked the guy if his had leaked. The answer was yes...it was leaking on the bike currently.
Anyway, that's all I know.

I had a gpr and yes you had to drill 2 holes in the frame. I didn't care too much for that, and also you couldn't run a strap on the front, safely... I've never owned the other type.

No holes for the GPR, it mounts right to the front tank bolt and replaces the large head nut with the mounting bracket. Easy as that.

Check out gpr's website or call them. I don't have the pic on my phone anymore. The bracket that bolts to the tank cover has a place that 2 bolts has to be tapped into the frame in between the steering head nut and the tank cover.

I've had a GPR V4 on my zx14 for over one year now- 0 issues whatsoever.
This is the V4 for the zx14- it clearly states that there's no drilling of the frame
involved in the item description a few lines bellow:

my Dad has one too he got it last spring. no drilling required. he rides his bike harder than any one else I know and so far his hasn't leaked yet. word on the street is Gpr got there act together with the whole leaking issue. However they do recommend that you send is in to be serviced once a year free of charge, and they pay the shipping. that being said I am not a damper guy myself but in the rare instance where I am required to have one I still prefer the olins style myself. just my preference.

Scotts damper is the one that looks like the GPR but requires frame drilling when mounting.

Chad bought a GPR for his 14 last week and the bracket was machined off center enough that a socket was hard to get on for the steering head nut. He called them and they over-nighted another bracket no questions asked........great customer service for sure.
They even sent a prepaid box for return shipping so Chad wouldn't be out any money.
I was impressed with their commitment.

I have the GPR4 also, no issues after a year and a half. It would be an issue if you strap the front end for drag racing. Any one that you decide to use is great investment.

I guess I find it a little bit of a concern that GPR gets to demonstrate their customer service skills so often!
I also heard that they are great about fixing the leaks as well..
But, it is good that they take care of the issues.

I bought mine for about $350 new and at the time the Brock's Ohlins unit
was over $200 more than that. The V4 is much lighter than the older V1 version.
So far so good, if it starts leaking I'll probably switch to Ohlins.
Wish a had a single good pic of it on the bike... well I don't.

Shane,
I just LOVE your build thread...I've learned sooooo much. I've been through the entire thing twice!!! Good job!
Question...the Muzzy kit has all the pieces and has got the fork clamp and it appears that it uses stems/extention pieces that make it work higher....v..s....the Brocks kit on the other hand uses a lower level position/format and had the end mounted to the handlebar grip hex bolts...I kinda like the lower profile and the ZX-14 logo on the mount.
Any input on either being a better set being unbiased having the Muzzy?
Check out the link below and let me know your profesh opinion...please.

It looks like the damper assemblies are close to the same. The reason I went with the Muzzy's was that I wanted to use PMR switches, and they use the master cylinder bar clamp. The Brock part also connects to the right master cylinder clamp, so they would not be compatible.
The Brock may be better for a front strap, but I have not seen one in person. The strap is a tight fit with the Muzzy. Otherwise, I am sure the Brock's is a solid part, and it is cheaper as well, if I recall.
Sorry I can't offer more here. Glad you like my thread!

I should also mention that the Muzzy has a rather complicated assembly that bolts around the steering head. It can make removing the tank cover a bit of a pain at times. So, if the Brock setup is a more simple design, that would be an improvement.
