re-building turbo install
After taking the ATP turbo off, ceramic coating, the re-install is now at the end of the second day. All the gaskets I ordered were not the correct size, as the retailers said that a GT 30 turbo has differend gasket sizes, depending of if you have a wastegate, or not..... so taking feedback I have done gaskets with copper RTV. The retailers are sending new, correct size gaskets.
When I initially installed the turbo I did it 'draft', pending seeing how things worked and need for fine tune. Re-installing is taking some time to finesse ele and oil line wiring, insulating turbo and header parts, probably over done, and the re-discovery of the mis-fit of some of the original ATP parts.
Dump pipe pipe did not fit when I received, so can't use it for 'test' running the bike for oil and water tight lines, poorly designed exhaust pipe making installation more than a PITA to mount to the turbo as the exhaust (flange) seemed hurried so you have to have a mix of studs and a few bolts to allow for getting on - due to the unusual bend it makes (could have been avoided)... and so on.
As I get more experience with this turbo setup, I see the 'hurried' job that was done in the design/engineering - not professional. Despite him 'knowing' some seeming good information, to me he seemed to take advantage of any situation he could. I won't have any business with him again, as each and every time Harry made a promise to do something, because it was the minimum and 'only' way to do it, e/g/, minimum 2 1/2 exhaust system, as 2 1/4" was "too restrictive', he put on a 2 1/4 inch exhaust!. If he'd change somethingk, following a 'needs to be done this way', it was always for a lesser standard, always to my decriment, and the $ and keeping things simple/betterment for himself. Always.
I see he continues to advertise the setup comes with a 'full exhaust.'
"" includes:
down pipe or full length tail pipe and muffler."
Not.
You have to pay for that exhaust. After over 8 months of him being twice informed, "Oh, I forgot!, he said, to remove it, he still cotinues to use that 'false advertising'. At this point it is on purpose. To who's benefit?
Anyway, moving on.
So the bike has the turbo installed, exhaust almost done (will wait until oil and water line check on test startup), and have decided to not put a second fan on the radiator as the ceramic coating was just done, and also have used 2K insulation around the header and wastegate, as well.
The oil restrictor that was sent is a different size feeding to the oil line, and local stores do not have adaptors, so I took the ATP stock 1/8" fitting, welded the end shut, tappered the end, and drilled a 1/16th hole (.6 MM). So far that is the only connection I am worrying about when I rought start the engine for leaks.
Tommorow I hope to finish the radiator install, and start the bike up. Between parts going and coming, and a vacation, it has been about a month since the bike was running.
i will post a few pics up, maybe tomorrow.
