OK tried to go drag racing
Well after 20 plus years decided to take the bike out to Sat night local drags. They wouldn't let me run with "textile" pants if I go over 120 in the quarter. To me seems like a crock of bull. They said had to be leather per NHRA rules. I don't think this could be a NHRA race just run what you brung. It's at PIR in Portland Or. For 25 bucks I went home instead of having 1 run and being kicked out. Looked it up says sfi 40.1/2 or leather what is sfi 40.1/2?

Why don't you get some good protective gear? Is safety really worth arguing about? Textile is not going to cover your ass at 120, much less 150!

I got a leather suit from a place online, a 2 pc suit for like $280. That's cheap enough!

if you're dead set on not getting leathers, go to a 1/8th mile track. I still suggest getting leathers though. I still wince at the thought of what would have happened if i had gone down all the times that i raced in blue jeans. For a good cheap set of leathers, give Wayne willis a call or shoot him an e-mail and tell him that Chad Yates sent you. His website is

Looks like leathers is the voted item. I've been kind of looking at either getting some pants or a full perforated leather type set. I always rode in jeans in the old days did wreck once at 30 mph and took a chunk out of my knee and limped around for a couple of weeks. Yeah bet the textiles don't hold up in a high speed get off. Thanks for the suggestions.

The SFI rating is more geared towards cars - it is a rating asigned to the fire protective properties of the suit. The SFI index will change with the higher the horsepower, the more volatile the fuel and the ET class they compete in.
Like on a bike, a car driver may only need a jacket up to a certain speed/ET, then like a bike they have to go to a full suit.

I wear a textil jacket and Icon jeans the couple of imes I ahve been to the track. I am going to have a fulll leather suit for next year.
