VFR Vs ZX14
Article of interest on the VFR site.
If you were forced to trade in your old and busted VFR for a new ZX14, what would you miss the most…

I own both and it is comparing apples to oranges. They weigh the same but the VFR feels 50# lighter. Been riding the 14 only the last few weeks and when I got back on the VFR it is GUTLESS. Maybe the new 1200 will be better. Old Fart signing off. LSL

I own both a 99 vfr 800 and a 06 ZX14. The vfr turns easier in the corners. I can knee drag with no problem. The ZX14 I'm still learning the feel I have only had it for a week now. But I have to get off the seat and shift my weight to get this bike bike to turn. I had to change gears on the vfr to do roll on wheelies. I'm a big boy so the vfr lacks the power to put my big ass on one wheel. The ZX14 will stand up with no issue. Now with the long straight roads here in west Texas the vfr does ok tops out around 150-160mph and can hold that for as long as there is road. I've ran 150 for 48 miles beating the cops to my impound yard when it was getting broke in to (trip took 16 minutes). The zx14 is a land missile with power to burn at any speed I have yet to hit top speed on it. Give me another week and I'll let you know. It's safe to say the VFR will be collecting dust in the corner.

You know I have to chime in here. Remember that I use and treat my bikes as if they were a car so what I think is just my opinion.
OK I own 3 VFR's a 2002 and (2) 2007's, I previously owned a blue 2006 ZX-14 and I'll try to hit all the differences.
The ZX has the smoothest engine I've ever ridden, although I can't really complain much about the VFR's engine jumping off the ZX and onto the VFR I remember thinking "I don't remember the vibrations or the mirrors moving this much."
The engine delivery was as expected when comparing a 781cc vs. 1352cc there is no comparing. Wait a minute they are similar in one respect, both engines are soft in the lower rpm's and once above 6K both engines turn into lions in their own ways. The ZX will clearly walk away from the VFR but the VFR does can hold its own if done right.
Handling, I disagree with some here, I could turn the ZX so much better than the VFR in parking lots. On the road the VFR is very predicable, I'm really not sure why but I found myself having to correct myself in corners even after 25K on the ZX. It was not a bad thing, I suspect it had more to do with the ZX did what I was thinking more so than what I was doing. I've seen professionals do the same thing on tape so I suspect it's not just me.
I had a center stand on the ZX so they were even in the lube dept. But the VFR shines in accessibility. Takes me seconds to put the battery tender on the VFR try that on the ZX. I do have issue with Kawasaki's battery location. The VFR went 87,000 miles before it's first valve check, the ZX needed to be checked after 15K. I think that might have had a bike with an issues but there were clearance issues. Other than chain adjustments all other maintenance seemed equal.

That would at least get the bike in my garage. She would then soon realize between dishes, laundry and pleasuring me there is no time for her to ride and the bike would be all mine

The bike I had before the 14 was a red 04 VFR800. I loved that bike, single sided swing arm, the overall look, body etc., sexy! I put a dual micron exhaust, pcIII and some other stuff. For me the only issue I had with the VFR...was a little under powered for a bike that size. I loved everything, the v4 sound etc etc, just wished it had about 20 or more hp, it probably had 100-105 guessing...also wanted inverted front forks. The VFR also had option for bags/trunk. The finish with the gauges/cluster nicer more refined then 14. I think for size and weight both bike handle pretty well. Especially since I put some pilot's on the 14. The VFR is really well balanced and feels light, probably easiest and best handling bike I've ridden. I do have to say all my experience is on big or heavy bikes(14, busa, buell, VFR, Harley's etc.). I wouldn't even know how to comment on a smaller 600 or something(I have never ridden), riding one of those I would probably throw myself off the side of a mountain!

One more thing, I probably would take a later gear driven cam VFR model over the vtec from 02 up...98-01?!

I like both bikes a great deal. I think a VFR would be an awesome bike to add to the stable. I need something geared towards commuting and handling a passenger with more comfort. I was considering this bike before my purchase but I dont think I am done with sport bikes completely yet. It would most definitely be a second bike. Something to cruise around in. I hope they come out with a new generation version of it. I love the quality and build on honda motorcycles. They last a long time and need minimal maintenance. I would love to get an anniversary edition as well. Crazy color scheme. Or I would opt for that burgundy color they had. I dont know what year that was but that will do. I hear alot of dealerships still carry leftovers.
