Straight Link Question
Can any one tell me the pros and cons of the straight link. The rear end of my bike is lower then the front when i sit on the bike. With the bikes at this stance it feels like it wheelies very easy at the track. I have the forks as slide up as far as possible and the lowering links in the third hole.

ground clearance is pretty much it. put a 60 series tire on the front of your bike, that will lower it some more.
____________
b.w.
zx14, little longer, little louder, little lower.
08 Busa, just a little longer and louder and lower than the 14

A strait link changes the piviot point and makes your shock stiffer. it also offers ground clearance. You should have a strap for the front of it.

+1 on the strap. I don't know much about the straight links myself. Is the swingarm extended?

The straight link increases the leverage the shock has over the swingarm.
By about 30% stiffer from my calculations, but the leverage is more linear.
It gives your stock shock a chance when you stretch the arm, as the leverage is increased over the shock when the arm gets longer.

I'm running a 60 series front tire and can't strap the front. I have internally lowered the forks and slide the tubes up as far as I feel safe.

ohhh I would be very careful with a 60 and forks slid up...
I would strap that biotch down and check your pan clearance... er make sure you have some!

I left some details out I'm running a turbo zx-14 slammed with a adams pan, 6 over Macintosh swingarm, 60 series front tire, shinko rear slick. The bike when I sit on it is lower in the rear and feels like the bike wants to wheelie real easy at the track. Just trying to find out if the straight link would help this problem

It will stiffen the rear end so it doesn't squat back as much...stock shock?
I would raise the rear if necessary..

Remove the spring from your rear shock and try to cycle the rear end travel with a straight link installed...it usually binds the shaft completely!
A little history: the very first straight link for drag racing was created because one particular crew chief became angry that his stock pivot link kept hitting/scratching his bike lift when he rolled the bike up after a pass. He made a straight one and POOF... Something else to sell guys for their bikes?!
As a long time Dragshock development partner with Öhlins USA and an authorized Öhlins suspension tuning center, we could never endorse or suggest the use of anything product which works like this. I received a prototype to test from one MFG. years ago and sent it back after I saw what it did to the suspension travel. Their feelings were hurt, oh well. If I won’t use it myself, I won’t sell it to others.
Some guys might argue that they work….we so does a strut in some applications. It’s not about IF you can get down the track…it’s about how quickly and consistently you can get down the track which wins races.

Never knew that Mr. Brock! I was one of the guys next in line to buy one, but thanks for the valuable info! I knew it changed the pivot point, but never thought about it putting everything in a bind

Wierd, I see these used by the fastest guys at the track. I just got mine set-up. But i got the shock, straight link, and lowering links. Didnt see faster 60s yet. But the bike had the fastest mph to date for me. 167 mph 1\4 134 1\8. I still need to fine tune it. I dont see it binding up. It squats and goes. I just need to adjust my launch rpm, and be faster on the clutch. Im set in my old ways i geuss.
