Never turbo without clutch mods./

Your most likely tired of reading about the Muzzy turbo Stage 1. 23K and sweet, 32K total miles. Fried the clutch. Installed new springs fibers and metals. The Shinko hooks up, testing every component that follows. This is a daily rider and road bike. Hey! beat Cycle World times for a Stock ZX-14. Only by a few tenths. Best time is 9.82 @ 147 mph. Terrible slow. Stock clutch, ouch! Reaching 32K on the 14. The clutch and tail license plate light bulb are the only repair problems. Track temp 120 F, altitude corrected 9,000 ft.

I'd want a bit better than 9.82 if I'd paid the money for a turbo, or was it the conditions ?

My non-turbo 14 did 9.84 geared 17/40, standard wheelbase and foot-shifting. What would yours do at sea-level on a cooler day davej ?

The turbo has to try and suck hot air then compress it. GIGO, when the track is cool then wheel spin which can be mistaken for clutch spin or both happen. Turbos work well with an intercooler which I don't have. Bone stock Busas and 14's barely make it into the tens on this track..Many times have seen good riders think their going to kick butt then look in disbelief at their time slip. It's hot, it's high add the Sportsman class without diapers can make it hairy when you hit their oil. Going to the track today with a new clutch and comp springs. Feels like solid hook up now without the engine revving up smacking the limiter when it shouldn't happen.

Intercoolers aren't very effective for the 1/4 mile anyway, unless you have an ice box.
Intercoolers are more suited for distance to reduce heat soak for prolonged boost.

This is what Corky Bell writes in his turbo book anyway.

Nitrous is a great instantaneous intercooler though! LOL

A 9.62@146.6 is crap, 1/8 sucks. Rider is heavy, compared to you, with little experience. What do you call fast for a daily rider? This is not a drag bike or it would be 143 lbs lighter with a slick and sporting 400 more hp..
