GT30 turbo compressor o-ring

I have the turbo housings, exhaust header and pi0pe ready to be sent out for ceramic coating.

While I was removing the compressor side houseing, inside there is an approx 5=6", thin orange o-ring. When ever the turbo was put together, about 1" had been dislocated and pinched/deformed, so the o-ring now is very loose and deformed.

I called Limited Engineering for a replacement, and they said:

1. they are not available to be replaced (at all)

2. you don't even need that o-ring.

?

If you don't need it, why does Garett go the the trouble to put them in?

If I'm not mistaken there is a repair kit sold for the GT30, 32, and 45's correct?

It includes two O-rings, bearings, nuts etc ...

Can't understand why it's not needed either.

Kawa,

Yes, I believe you are correct, and that O-ring is in the rebuild kit!

Thats why I hate taking apart good working parts, things just become more and more of a pain as you go. I hope everything goes back together and works fine for you Personally I would have just used a kick-ass high temp paint and left the turbo together

LOL.

That seal will get cut up, spliced and go back in if I can't find a replacement.
And I am with you... I hate it when taking things apart and those occasions when they don't go back well.

JDC, you could probably use HIGH temp RTV silicone, like the copper colored stuff.
Its just the compressor side, heat won't be an issue.
