Steering Head Bolt question

Just got my GPR and of course I dont have a socket or wrench big enough to fit the ZX-14 steering head bolt. Anyone know the exact size so I can make the socket purchase. Thanks

36mm steering head nut. I have the GPR4 on mine. Like it a lot.

The steering nut is actually 35mm if I remember correctly however I couldn't find that size socket so I used a 36mm and just hoped that I didn't strip it.
It worked fine without any problems, just be careful with it when you torque it back on to 58 ft-lb.

Glad you came in windsword. I was wrong. 35mm is it, but 36mm is all I had also.

Being as thought the 14 is so heavy ,does the stabilizer really make that much of a difference. Or is it only when you really push the bike hard you feel the need for the extra tightness ???

After using the GPR and riding the bike without it, I find it floppy. It was a very nice addition for confidence when the bike wheelies.

It's also what's used in Road racing. Excellent for me in turns. Yea, I had wheel chatter the first time the front came down, very scary because I was'nt used to the bike at that time. Tank slap would mess my day up. I even checked that everything was in spec on the steering head before purchasing the GPR4. I wonder how many off the pro's here would advise in using a steering damper? Anybody?

Derpie I have had it installed a few days now. Really like how it feels. Much more solid. Biohazard Cycles $388 shipped for the V4. Not bad.

Yeah that's way cheaper then I saw it for maybe I will take the plunge. But I've never noticed any shimmy or tank slap. Is that only for the guys who redline there precious 14 every gear who notice this phenomenon .

My opinion is , if you need one it could save a lot more than bike repair/replacement !!!
If you get one that uses different hardware for different bikes then it is a good investment that can then be used on your next bike also.
Cheap life insurance.

I just don't get the whole steering damper thing on the 14. I guess it's just feel good preference type thing. The 14 is the most high speed and wheelie stable bike I've ever owned. Of the dozens of times mine's set back down after wheelies it has very rarely exhibited even the slightest hint of headshake. IMHO five to six bills could be much better spent on this bike.

Derpie it takes 5 minutes to install, very easy. You just need a 35 or 36 mm thin wall socket and a hex wrench.

No way derpie,I'm borderline mechaically tarded and I did it. Just remove the original head bolt with the 36mm socket. Then attach GPR mount base using the new supplied nut. Tighten with 36mm socket. Remove the front tank mount screw. Take the the thingy that the steering damper arm goes into and mount that to the front bolt hole of the tank mount.(THERES ONLY ONE WAY IT FITS) After everything is torqued now mount the GPR on top of the mount with two 5mm hex head bolts and ur done.

As for it being "the most stable bike it size" I've whelied mine and quite a few times I've had a good bit of head shake, one time ALMOST threw me off. I think if you ride a bike that will lift the front tire, its worth it.

that gpr you don't have to tap the 2 bolts into the frame?

The zx14 is the most stable bike I have ever owned.
That said a steering damper is a part you may never get to appreciate, as it can save your life and your bike when you do REALLY need it.
Its one of those items you will only REALLY appreciate when you didn't have one, and its too late.
