Are sure it's not the cam chain tensioner rattling? The only thing is, that would only rattle a couple seconds at startup. Not to worry you but I've read the idiot oil light is not reliable.

nah its not the tensioner ratting i know how that sounds. it sounds like a valve ticking. but the bike feels good still. i know i switch the oil might that be it i used some car oil this time they say its all the same i hope.

smokin the bike never ticked before intill i cracked the pan and drove it like that. idk what to do . i read the same thing happen to seven and he ended up messing the motor up but hes ticking started after 200 hundred miles. what do you recammend me to do. im going crazy over the ticking. i hope nothing is wrong with the motor. i hear no knocking just the ticking it not crazy ticking its just tick tick then it stops then ticks . the only thing i did different was i put 10-40 castrol car oil. thank smokin for some info and nice numbers and launching.

Get a rag and hold it tight over the end of the pipe while running ... If it has an exhaust leak you will hear it ...

NO put it in the end of the pipe ... stop the exhaust from coming out the end of the pipe ...This will make the back pressure very high and if there is a leak it will get much louder ..

Hey Jr I had a ticking noise on my bike after I had it tuned on a dyno, and I thought for sure it was a valve tapping. It sounded "mechanical" and I just knew that some part of the valve train was going bad after being taken to the rev limiter so many times. It turned out to be a bad header gasket. Once it was replaced everything was back to normal. I have a full 2 brothers exhaust also. Hopefully that is all that is causing your noise as well.
Good luck!

Drain the oil in a clean container and look for flakes. If a bearing is gone you should see the flakes. Can always re-use the oil if you don't see anything.

When you pull the pan, get under the bike with a light and look at the rods/bearings. If one is spinning, you should be able to see it, not to mention would have the flakes in the pan. Also, while you have the pan off, pull the oil pickup and make sure the screen is clear while you have it down.
