cam chain tentioner replacement

You dont have to if it is the manual type but according to the service manual you have to have the cover off to disengage the plunger on the factory one..

If you are installing a stock replacement, you should be able to install it only if your cylinder head has the inspection port on the side of the head.
My 07 didn't, but an 08 I saw did. Others on here with 07' say theirs has the inspection port.
If you want a stock replacement, I have a brand new CONCOURS unit to sell.
Also, make sure that for whatever one you do, you order BOTH the Oring and the GASKET. The OEM unit has no gasket, just the oring....the APE unit uses an Oring and I put on the gasket too!

My 06 has the inspection port.... how come some of the 07's don't?

just take the ignition cover off and ever so slightly turn the motor over backwards with a wrench just enuf to put some slack on the tensioner side of the chain, then put the modified 12r tensioner per 12r manual. whola! ur done.. mine works perfect!!

LAB3, this method sounds like a good way to do it also.
Otherwise, you are left with no choice, but to remove the valve cover.
Maybe Bill Eason will have some tips for you.

Thanks. When I have time I will look at the CCT on my 2007. Used a APE manual on a FJ1200 and adjusted as the post above described. I am taking long trips this summer
and want a auto CCT adjuster that is Quiet when I start a cold engine.

i don't know his method .. but i never needed to pull a cover on a stocker either .. that wire lock don't take much to trigger ..

I should have one out to you by Friday i hope Lab3 ! As Todd said they work great and you never have to touch it again. I have 6 of them that should be finished Thursday. .....................Bill
